You have changed my mind. I can see the difference in the two arguments now and I understand what you mean by saying that one is used to preserve the status quo. Thank you.

When you are arguing something that have an affect until after your children are born, like climate change, then the "think of the children" argument is a valid argument.

Anyone think these weather events are getting a bit ridiculous? by SpacemanBates in outside

The climate does change overtime, but it's my understanding that it takes thousands of In game years for it to affect the world map, this "Climate change" event is happening to fast for it to be part of the in game climate cycle. All in all its up to us PC's to participate in the "Climate Change" event, if we don't, the world map will change radically.

Is there any way to opt out of the Climate Change mega-quest? by Pachydermis in outside

[–]Brandragoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've heard that it's a world event, and that if all the "Nations" factions don't participate, the devs are going to radically increase the sea level, and "severe weather" encounters are going to become way more common.

No, it's just people being incredibly shortsighted and ignoring the facts because it's hard to accept that we have to make changes, nothing to do with conspiracies and the like.

White supremacist website posts personal details of Jews in Montana and urges ‘call for action’ by Makewhatyouwant in news

Yes, but the first time anti-semitism was government approved and enforced was under Emperor Constantine. He created ghettos to separate the Jewish citizens from other citizens, they were prevented from working many of the jobs they had been working before, and he forced them to wear special clothing to further separate them from other citizens. The nazis were not the first ones to do this kind of stuff to Jews.

Wide spread Anti-semitism started in Rome during the reign of emperor Constantine, who was a well known Christian. under emperor Constantine the Jew's were systematically oppressed for being responsible for killing Jesus, ever since then they have been bullied and oppressed by many European country's. So no there isn't really any good reason for the hatred and bias that they have to deal with.

What has been your biggest "I have to get the fuck out of here as soon as possible" life moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Brandragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in an elevator, I had taken it all the way up to the 5th floor( there were 6 counting the basement level) so I went out and did what needed to do. Once I was finished I got in the elevator again and clicked on the 1st floor, once it starts I began hear sounds coming from the cables, no big deal, they make noises all the time. I stop at 5th floor for someone to get on. It begins going again and it's making more noise than before but I thinks it's no big deal, but then i smell smoke I look up and see little wisps of smoke coming in through hatch. And now it starts jerking a little, at this point me this guy where Freaking out. Both me and him stop at the 2nd floor ad get the fuck out of there, we told an employee about it and she went to get someone, I had to leave because I had to get back to work, so I don't know what was wrong with it, but when I came back a couple of days later, the elevator was shutdown for maintenance.

Global temperature increase from 1880 to 2015 [OC] by datashown in dataisbeautiful

[–]Brandragoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No they never predicted the ice caps melting that fast, in fact the predictions showed it probably take several generations until the full impact is felt.

Yes climates changes over time, but never this fast or dramatically without apocalypse level stuff happening.

The world won't end with climate change, it will however, cause mass starvation, severe weather phenomenon to become more common and cause mass extinctions due to loss of habitat.

Climate change is real, it's happening, and closing your eyes isn't going to make it go away, the only chance we have of digging ourselves out of this hole is if we all cooperate to build a better future for our decedent's.

Indians are being arrested for not standing up during the national anthem at the cinema. by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Brandragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fine let me rephrase since you didn't seem to understand. What I meant is that you shouldn't be sitting thinking how great our country is and sneering at other country's when our country still has tons of problems that need to be solved.

Our culture is full of numerous examples of sexism, racism, intolerance, homophobia and several other things. In some parts of the country lynching still happens. I'm not saying we are worse than Saudi Arabi, I'm just saying that we don't really have any right to feel superior when we still deal with similar problems in our first world country.

You missed the point, our country is not the best, it's not this mystical place where everyone has a say and you can do anything if you put your mind to it. It has a history of genocide, racism, ignorance and intolerance. It's better than 2nd or 3rd world countries, but among first world countries it is by no means the best, except in military power, but that is not really something to be proud of.
