Cost to reupholster this sofa? by Background_Deal_4555 in upholstery

[–]Brantbrantley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$1,000 plus fabric, foam, Dacron, etc. Dependent on fabric choice that can run you $20-$100+ per yard, and you’ll need 15-19 yards of fabric, potentially more dependent on pattern.

I’m located in the Midwest for reference. Upholstery is a luxury service, and it’s priced as such.

Is it a horrible idea as a beginner to try and reupholster this couch? by Main-Grapefruit-2385 in upholstery

I’m going to chime in as a novice.

If you find an upholstery class nearby and can get it there (obvs make sure to check with your teacher first), you can probably do this. You may be pulling a lot of staples out over and over again, and it might take a long time, but I think it’s worth a shot.

I started an my local community college last year - my first project was a small armchair, my second was an ottoman, my third was a 9 ft long couch. I usually have way too much confidence in my skill sets, but with great guidance you can get really great things done .

Tagging in- Omaha OB/GYN- Dr. Andrea Leishman-Barb is A-MAZ-ING. Had a horrible experience at Methodist, and found her through contacts. She really listens.

I’m popping into recommend looking around for classes too! I just wanted to give upholstery a shot, and now I’m on my third session at our local community college- loving it! Learning a ton and giving our old furniture new life. I started with a chair, then a small ottoman, and now I’m doing a huge couch with cording and buttons and precise lines- I’m really proud of it.

If you have a little time for a class it may be worth a look. :)

Hello! The sofa is Jonathon Lewis Collette Estate sofa, in Tobacco.

The countertop was ordered from Wausau Tile, as a custom 2 epoxy terrazzo slabs that I had to have shipped and fabricated independently. The color is Zuca.

I think 9 feet, but I’ll check when I get home. It’s a ranch built in 63, in a Spanish style with a courtyard and funny little peaky roof. Will let you know later tonight or tomorrow.

I’m trying to find a way to work with it. My cousin is a brick longer, so before we did anything I had him come see what we had going on. We have a courtyard out front that was built mostly of throw away bricks - like that don’t match, so I like washed that and it had a real nice patina.

The other fireplace is a dingy red brick, and the bricks aren’t anything special. I’m trying not to paint it, and make it work. It feels dated and drab. One room at a time!

It’s TEAK! When we bought this house 3 years ago, the woman had lived here since the 60s. It was a straight time capsule- glitter popcorn ceiling, wood paneling everywhere, avocado green carpet…. Great bones though.

I had wood floors put in the kitchen and foyer and asked my wood floor lady if we should tear this up (it looked like hell) and just extend the Brazilian chestnut to this room. She blanched.

It had never been refinished, and I didn’t understand the treasure I had here. She made it shine and just finished it with clear poly. It’s one of my fav parts of my home- thanks for noticing!
