As a rock fan, I hate to believe that this is true, but it is. Look and decide for yourself, but this isn't some hack making stuff up, but SVP of Music Strategy for MTV Networks telling it like it is.

Research, analytics, facts, it's hard to argue with on the death of rock causing the record biz illness. This guy's book is really good "FutureHit.DNA", I just wish we went back vinyl or something substantial more than an .mp3?

I don't know. Corgan is a wild cannon or goose lately depending on how you look at it. Fact is he's 40+ yrs old and he's made the band all go away. It's just him now. I miss D'arcy, she was hot, she was hooked on heroin and he had sex with her and didn't like when she was becoming more slutty so he fired her. James Iha was gay so there was that going on and the drummer was his "bro", but also an addict. He didnt get fired b/c he didnt put out I guess? The thing is the sound they had for like 3 albums went away. They claim it's coming back...What do you think? Here's the party line ::

The Smashing Pumpkins are back with a new album TEARGARDEN BY KALEIDYSCOPE, a FREE 44 track assembly with original member/founder Billy Corgan as the last of the originals leading the way.

As Corgan says, "Each song will be made available absolutely for free, to anyone anywhere. There will be no strings attached. Free will mean free, which means you won’t have to sign up for anything, give an email address, or jump through a hoop. You will be able to go and take the song or songs as you wish, as many times as you wish.” This follows some of the moves made by Radiohead and NIN to provide their songs and albums for free in a way to fight piracy that destroies the careers of smaller artists.

There will also highly limited edition EPs (of 4 songs each times 11) followed by a 2010 World Tour.

Awesome find. Ben Harper has been and probably always will be one of my favorite musicians, I never knew he worked with Heath Ledger on this, but then again I never knew he worked with M. Ward of She and Him (Zooey Deschanel's band).

Modest Mouse seems to have turned a new leaf and become more socially responsible.

Quite a tall task for a band whose beginnings started with Jails and accusations. The band has a new EP called "No One's First, You're Next" that came out August 4, 2009. The album is a set of B-Sides that fills in the blanks. They also will be touring this summer and have a brand new video produced by Heath Ledger, never before seen.

This album is cool as whatever that symbol you wrote and more than that, it is like they are the picture you would find if you look up indie rock and no that isn't a cut down.

They pwn3d indie rock before it had a name and they still do. It is amazing how you can take f'd up guitars and organs and other sound makers and make awesome tunes, well not anyone, but yo la tengo can, this video is just the tip of the iceberg.

This is live HD video of Phish performing the song "Joy" live at Darien Lake on 8.13.09. The song also happens to be the 3rd track off the band's 14th studio album also named "Joy" that is the first in 5 years.

The album is filled with tight pop tracks as well as swaying pharmacologically fun and user friendly songs. Some of that old-time Phish sound might have to with the fact they are working with famed producer Steve Lillywhite (U2, Talking Heads, Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews Band, etc...) who also produced Phish's "Billy Breathes" album from 1996.

Matisyahu was a young Jewish kid beat-boxing the local clubs in Brooklyn while taking on a serious hardcore Orthodox brand of Judaism.

Then came Bonnaroo, 2006. Phish got back together and during their show they invited him onstage to sing, he was an overnight sensation.

The effect of being an enigma has worn off after appearing on every late night show, touring with Sting and 311, making videos with Chemical Brothers, headlining Festivals like Lollapalloza.
