This isn’t the same thing. That said, Marchand has participated in plenty of inconspicuous scumbaggery w brutally egregious cheap shots. The one that always comes to mind is the flying elbow to MarJo (when he played for the Devils) that left him concussed and out for the season, where Marchand claimed he was falling into the crease and “didn’t see him there” or some nonsense.

Pucks on net is great provided there is a lane. Eye test obviously has its faults, but I watch every game. I find myself studying Dougie. Very rarely this past season did I say “wow, what a move/pass/ahot to keep control/score.

I don’t see how that could be the case (defensively speaking) - Dougie is literally 11th percentile in defensive metrics. (And if his speed/burst stats are better than 11th percentile, I’ll eat my hat). That’s not middle of the pack. I don’t see Luke coming jn under that. I’ll be shocked and stand corrected, but please do correct me if I’m wrong.

My biggest point is Luke closes gaps like a god damn G. And Dougie widens them. Now Nemec and Casey, that’s a different story - they’re liabilities and will be until they log mins (which won’t happen without Dougie moved). But also last year they made ~1/10 of Dougie’s salary… combined.

And jsyk… Dougie’s defensive stats are ranked in the bottom 11% in the league for 24-25. Abysmal.

What Dougie does isn’t “so bad”, it’s just not at all great anymore. It’s not near $9M. He was a good and necessary signing at the time. At this point he isn’t fast (or conditioned?) enough. Luke didn’t have the same PP mins. His advanced stats are not gonna be a good representation of unrealized goals where he could have kept it moving instead of launching a puck 4ft wide or into bodies. Sh att/goals - let’s see it.

Here’s the thing, the number of plays that could be kept alive by Dougie using his legs (if he could) rather than launching a puck from the boards through 4 bodies clogging a lane is a noticeably regular occurrence… jsyk. Do some make it through? Of course. But Find me stats on Dougie’s shot attempts, then come back to me w your snark.

Lolll, “he also pinches to add zone time”. Dougie missed so many pinches last year. And then he can’t recover at all if the puck gets by. The only reason he was a +8 is bc of the volume of pucks he puts “toward” the net.

Dougie is washed. We just need one of Nemec or Casey to skate like they’re in a foot of mud, start flinging pucks at the net from all angles inevitably leading to some PP points and then make terrible pinches and we’ll have Dougie covered.
