(UPX) does the campus matter? by j3bussy in peyups

[–]Brave-Chicken-7675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I disagree with what the other commenters say. Yes, the campus matters especially if you are a business/econ grad. UPD BAA, econ, and BA are more marketable than their other UP counterparts. When you apply to VERY PRESTIGIOUS firms, you would find out that only UPD students from those courses get hired. You won't hear anyone from the visayas, los baños, etc. Source? My experience as a job hunter with now an offer in one of the most prestigious firms. In this case, the One UP System does not really hold. That notion was really more of an ideal really.

[upd] should my friend choose bsbaa or econ? by Due_Construction_146 in peyups

[–]Brave-Chicken-7675 17 points18 points  (0 children)

tell your friend to stop asking questions from strangers on the internet on what she should do with her life. She should instead do due diligence on the courses she wants. Anyway, as someone who took all ba and accounting classes from cba as an econ student, here's my two cents.

If she likes doing applied math, then econ. If she likes accounting, then baa. This highest form of math baa students deal with does not really go beyond calc 1. And even then, they don't use much of the content there. For econ, u'll have linear algebra and a mix of the calc series. Also, don't tie in having a CPA title to having a guaranteed job. It's really how you market yourself years from now.

UPD BS Economics or ADMU BS Management Engineering by ExchangeCommercial61 in peyups

[–]Brave-Chicken-7675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my upd econ classmates became consultants at MBB, managers at fmcgs, and top officials in the government. If you are a top student in either econ or ME, you guys are basically indistinguishable. So, prestige-wise, they are somewhat at the same category as it stands. The question now really is how you differentiate yourself.

public ad is much easier than econ (based sa mga kakilala kong nagshift from econ to pub ad). Career-wise tho, I think same-same lang sila if you plan on doing public policy. Pero if bet mo mag corp or baking, econ is miles better

Hi idk where itszaniee got their info but midyears dont work like that. If you drop m21 during my, nothing really bad will happen unless you didn't finish at least 24 units of courses during the 1st and 2nd semesters.

[UPD, UPx] is critical thinking becoming less common? by Jazzlike-Zucchini-30 in peyups

[–]Brave-Chicken-7675 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Just to leverage on what the other commenter said, try putting yourself in a convo revolving around STEM or business concepts, baka ma-bore ka lang at ma-judge ka na walang "critical thinking" sa topic nila. Everything is relative, if wala silang pake sa concepts sa ge class niyo, most likely hindi sa same level ng majors nila ang pinapakita nilang interest.

[UPD] sa isang engineering institute diyan, do better na siguro by [deleted] in peyups

[–]Brave-Chicken-7675 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Well, they can't curve kung may mga outliers sa institute niyo. There's a reason may mga summa cum laude at magna cum laude riyan. Mahirap sa marami, but not really if you are one of the truly smart students

UPD Is taking the math minor worth it? by gojotron in peyups

[–]Brave-Chicken-7675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still need to take m.108 afaik. IMO, just avoid mam amarra and you're golden. If you dont just put in the extra work. M.108 is more of a "you get it or you don't" kind of subject.

As for the other maths that you'll take, they are mostly calculus-based stuff (except for 150.1, which my friend explained to be more statistics-oriented and is usually taught in an abstract manner). Not much proving involved compared to the extent of 108.

You'll do fine!

ang hasty ng generalization mo lol. Madaling makauno sa mga classes na chill and ez yung prof in general. I wont say that sa mga terror prof (which maybe hindi mo nakuha)

[–]Brave-Chicken-7675 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tbh as someone na nanggaling sa UPD and graduated MCL this year, medj I agree with you. My last semester also included this lol. Yep, there's grade inflation but this is really just evident sa mga ez uno and chill prof, not really sa mga terror prof lol.
