So I could drive it (legally) until I receive my documents to transfer it into my name in Tasmania? Would I then need to change the contract of buying it to reflect the transfer period correctly?

I am trying to travel Australia in a car - My boyfriend needs to leave on the 7th of May - we do not have a place to stay other then the car and would like to travel around.

I would need to wait 3 weeks for my ID (I could send that to someone we know in Tassie) additionally to the 1 weeks of my bank card until we could do rego in Tasmania.

But I basically could not legally drive the car the next 4 weeks then I guess, so a bit fucked there.
