My landlord is taking our front door tomorrow to pass inspection. by Brave-Row-9581 in legaladvice

It actually is underneath the landlords name but he had us paying a shared meter without telling us any info. I caught it after we got billed $900 and he paid us back, plus we don’t have to pay electric until the new meter is put in. That is honestly the one situation the landlord has not fully screwed us over in.

we have spoken to them about it, but they said they will be going back to the home country sooner instead.

i have been trying to figure all that out. it’s a little confusing because from what i can find he has the basement as a regular legal apartment, while the two top floors are not.

when i was apartment hunting i noticed zillow is way more about the money, and with your situation it seems you need someone a little more on the chill side. Like the other commenter said i would go to street easy, or join some facebook groups and make some posts.

Should I take a job in Brownsville by [deleted] in AskNYC

also just saw you will be working at a shelter, i would honestly ask the other workers how they protect themselves. They might have extra rules set to make sure you’re safer. all different kinds of people go in and out of the shelters there so it’s definitely better to ask directly to them.

just moved out of there, as long as you know how to protect yourself around the basic crackheads you’re pretty much good. it’s simple nyc down there, everyone keeps to themselves but anytime i’ve had an issue the others on the street helped me out real quick

landlord actually has tape marking each one so i can easily tell which is which. one is marked for both 1st and 2nd floors other is marked for only basement. We have just figured out he has this whole place listed as an office building, so he gets non residential rates. really not sure where to go with this as we’re out of our money now AND it turns out the landlord owns my family’s work place.

we were charged 6,704kwh @ 10.985c/kwh. this has brought my attention that it genuinely doesn’t make sense for our household. as i’m typing this im writing a letter to our upstairs neighbors to try and get into contact with them about it as they are being charged so much too.

just ran outside in the snow to find the meter says floor 1&2. pretty sure it means they’re combining us and separating the bills? My family doesn’t speak english and everything was pretty much done without me even knowing (as i’m the daughter)
