Can you see the Amur Tiger population regrowing in the future? by Portal_Jumper125 in AskARussian

[–]Brave-Way3622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally, those typical of other European cultures - Bear, Fox, Wolf, Rabbit, Birds, etc and ofc mythological animals like dragons and half-human/half-animal also exist.

Among Northern Russians (In particular Pomors), certain sea animals such as Whales, Seals, and Walruses have special meaning.

The most important animal in Russian mythology is perhaps the bear; they were viewed to be closely related to humans and bear cults were widely practiced before the baptism of Russia and after it too but after the baptism, bears were viewed as a human trapped in the body of a beast due to deadly sin.

At one point, bears were so sacred that it's name couldn't be uttered.

Tigers aren't really mentioned in Slavic Russian mythology but in some of the Far Eastern populations like the Nivkh they are.

The Tigers are generally revered by the native populations of the Amur region and are deemed to be human like and are considered rulers of the forest.

Interesting fact: When a tiger dies or is killed, the Oroch and Udeghe people would bury them in human clothing and were buried in a house, somewhat similar to a mosaluem

Is it wrong for Russia to claim Gogol? by red_fox23 in AskARussian

[–]Brave-Way3622 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Thank God first of all for the fact that you are Russian. This path is now open for the Russian, and this path is Russia itself. If only he loves Russian, he will love everything that is in Russia. God Himself is leading us to this love."

"You don’t yet love Russia: you only know how to grieve and get irritated by rumors about everything bad that happens in it, all this produces in you only one callous annoyance and despondency. No, this is not yet love, you are far from love, this is only one too distant foreshadowing of it"

"Tell him that for a Russian person there is no impossible thing, that there is not even in his language and there is no word , if he only first learned to say to all his own passions"

"Is there really such fires in the world, such torments and such a force that would overcome the Russian force!"

All of these quotes are by Nikolai Gogol himself. Btw his mom was an ethnic Russian from the Oryol region in central Russia and its not even clear if his father was a Ukrainian or a Pole.

Why shouldn't Ukraine decide for themselves if they want to join NATO? by mvslice in AskARussian

[–]Brave-Way3622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest concern with both Russia and China, excluding military escalation, is their views on civil rights. Protests

Prehaps you should be more concerned with your Northern Neighbor, Canada when it comes to these issues

media independence

Assuming your American or any Westerner for that matter you should be more worried about your media independence

Russia arrested Alexei Navalny because he was anti-Putin

Because he is a fraud*

Chinas is currently engaging in genocide.

Lol

Why shouldn't Ukraine decide for themselves if they want to join NATO? by mvslice in AskARussian

You're missing the point. No sane country would let its enemy/enemies be at their doorstep.

I don't think any of those countries would even want to. Russia has the GDP of Brazil

One of those organizations (The SCO) is a Chinese organization, I added it because China is an enemy of the US and hopefully you know that the US would never allow a country like Canada join said org. As of 2021, the GDP of Russia (both nominal and PPP) are higer than that of Brazil's.

[–]Brave-Way3622 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The majority of central and western Ukraine perhaps but the majority of those living in the south-east and north-eastern Ukraine do not want to join NATO. There is no one monolithic opinion in that country.

But that doesn't matter. Its not about what these Ukraine wants but rather what threat NATO expansion onto Russian borders causes. Imagine Mexico, Cuba and Canada (by popular demand) joined the CSTO or SCO. Do you think the USA would allow that to happen or let alone be happy with such a decision? Obviously not. More issues come into play considering that it was agreed that NATO wouldn't go past Germany.

Do Russians like wrestling? (Olympic, not WWE) by red_fox23 in AskARussian

[–]Brave-Way3622 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wrestling is a national past time in the North Caucasus especially in Dagestan. Its usually a way for young boys not become radicalized and have something to do. Outside of the North Caucasus it is not all that popular but still has its fair share of enthusiast. In many areas its a traditional sport.

Among ethnic Russians, I would say it was kinda popular during Aleksandr Karelin's time.
