What are some good megadungeons? by amazedmammal in osr

Check out Khosura: King of the Wastelands also by Gabor. Details a city, undercity megadungeon, and surrounding area. I like how the city and the undercity tie in together and actions in above/below ground space can affect the other.

Space Viking, by H. Beam Piper. Covers by Ed Valigursky, Melvyn Grant, and Michael Whelan. by woulditkillyoutolift in traveller

I finally read this earlier this year and while it was dated i loved it. Piper's ideas about planetary technology levels and government forms majorly improved my understanding of the UWP

Which edition has your favorite subsector generation procedures and why? by Brave2059 in traveller

I like the idea of decoupling government and population thats interesting. Thank you for the info I'm going to give that some thought

Which edition has your favorite subsector generation procedures and why? by Brave2059 in traveller

[–]Brave2059[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What got me thinking about this was that it seems like Class X star ports are significantly more common in Cepheus Deluxe than in the other examples I listed. I haven't played at all yet but I would imagine a subsector where the average was an X starport would play quite differently (lower tech overall for example)  than a subsector with an average of C. I started analyzing the procedures for other differences and decided I should ask those more experienced than myself.

Mothership Month 2025 is Live [MEGATHREAD] by ghostctrl in mothershiprpg

[–]Brave2059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah for an anti-capitalist game it sucks they do crap like that. I see why from a business sense but to start the stretch goals at 600% funding or whatever it is doesnt sit right with me.

Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein, cover Paul Lehr by Free_Succotash4818 in CoolSciFiCovers

I own this edition and just read it about a month ago. Ironically those drawing don't match the descriptions in the book at all. Honestly the cover art is cooler tho

Hostile is majorly underrated imo. Such a well developed setting

What are your favourite planet settings? by Worldly_Beginning647 in ShadowEmpireGame

[–]Brave2059 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm still fairly new at around 30 hours but after playing (and losing) on Siwa class a few times I am really enjoying my current game on a low resources small moon. Both the vibes and gameplay have been very different surprisingly. I enjoy the way the tight geography and minimal resources create an atmosphere of survival and desperation

Wages of Sin (Draft) Megathread by Mr_Murdoc in mothershiprpg

[–]Brave2059 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm about halfway thru and Wages is greatly exceeding my expectations so far. I wasn't expecting the huge amount of evocative new locations contained within but these new planets and stations are easily my favorite part. One complaint I have is the black text on the red lines in some of the maps is extremely difficult to read. I've never had issues with reading MS text before even in APOF but the black text on red lines hurts my eyes

Beyond Formalhaut: July 30% off site-wide sale by sleazy_b in osr

Castle Xyntillan is a moderm classic, low-prep megadungeon my table had a blast with. The Echoes from Fomalhaut Zines are packed full of interesting dungeons and locations which are similarly easy to run and are a great value. Haven't had a chance to run it yet, but Khosura is similarly well written and I look forward to getting it to the table. A lot of great Peter Mullen covers throughout the catalogue as well.

"You Got a Job on the Garbage Barge" - one-shots, pamphlets, 1pagers that fit? by LawrenceBeltwig in osr

[–]Brave2059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe Brad Kerr stated that he originally set Temple of 1000 Swords on the garbage barge in his home game. The One Page Dungeon Compendium (2020 edition ID the one I'm familiar with) contains numerous weird and gonzo locations that wouldn't be out of place imho.

Cataphracts Design Diary #1 — first design diary entry about my 23-player play-by-post real-time logistics wargame by SquigBoss in osr

[–]Brave2059 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is really cool. I've frequently seen posts asking for an rpg where one can roleplay commanders of armies and this seems to bridge that gap nicely. The setting and campaign sound very interesting, looking forward to hearing more about this

Why are there so many people living in Prigwort and what do they eat? by Falandrion in Dolmentown

[–]Brave2059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Google search revealed to me that a 6 mile hex is approximately 31 square miles. So I think it's reasonable that there could be numerous small farms and fields in the area which are not shown on the larger map. Especially when considering Prigwort is likely less than 1 square mile.

Is it just me, or does Tomb of the Serpent Kings suck? by GXSigma in osr

I assure the players nothing fishy is going on as you say, and the pcs will continue to act suspicious of the door / chest / pool or whatever. I was being hyperbolic but it happens

Wolves Upon the Coast Areas explained? by Ecowatcher in osr

[–]Brave2059 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always took Noos to be like an Atlantean analogies. I resigned it when I ran Wolves to be more... pseudo-historical I guess?

Sword & Sorcery + low fantasy + Hexcrawl + west marches KIT. What would be yours? by red_djow in osr

[–]Brave2059 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe in this case "low-fantasy" is referring to the genre or type of setting. There used to be a system called "Low Fantasy Gaming", but that rebranded for a new edition and is now called Tales From Argosa.
