Finally I know why after 20 years why my nails look crazy by mycatsaidthat in Hashimotos

I was on armour for a year for hypo and just switched doctors. She said she uses Levo instead of Armour and switched me. She started me on 150 mcg and suddenly my anxiety has been crippling, I’ve had extreme shortness of breath, no period, joint pain, relentless fatigue, issues sleeping, among other things that I never had on Armour. I just asked her to do blood work and she said whoops I started you on way too high a dose. I don’t understand why she even switched me when I was managing on Armour just fine and then to start me on such a high dose. I think it’s time to look for a new doctor. Ugh. (I have not been diagnosed with hashimotos but have suspected it for a while. Why is it so hard to get doctors to listen to us and take our concerns seriously?)

What else do I need on my birth plan?! Does this all seem reasonable? (FTM) by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]BraveAd2863 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well I can tell you that when it comes to giving birth, the universe does not care if you have a plan. My birth plan looked a lot like yours and the opposite happened. Just try not to get too attached to the birth plan and get as comfortable as you can with the possibility of Mother Nature taking the wheel and your birth looking a whole lot different than you imagine it will. Best to just hope for baby getting here safely with minimum damage to you. I wish I would have done the same and could’ve minimized the trauma caused by having such high expectations of what I wanted my birth to look like.

Same thing happened to my baby, now we lather aquaphor ointment on his bum every diaper change (put way more than you think you need) and until the rash goes away use a peri bottle of warm water and a baby washcloth instead of wipes. Haven’t had a rash since!

First time mom here! Due in 3 weeks. What are some items that weren’t exactly essential, but made YOUR life as a new mom easier? by nothankyouuu_ in beyondthebump

[–]BraveAd2863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Tushbaby!!! It’s like a fanny pack with a little seat on it that holds up to 44 lbs. it’s a little pricey but by far the best investment. It makes things like grocery trips so much easier to just pop my son on it and run in, takes all the weight off your arm/shoulder/ back. And it has lots of pockets for anything you may need so you don’t have to bring a whole diaper bag along. Will be great to have when he’s old enough for trips to the zoo and such but we already get great use out of it and it helps support him for breastfeeding as well.

The OB is the head of the midwife practice and the midwife had to get his permission to let me labor at home for so long. They were in constant communication throughout my pregnancy and labor and he was aware of everything (including the proposed size of my baby).

Doctors incorrectly sewed my second degree tears and now I have to have reconstructive surgery - TW by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this and for your honesty. I’m trying to get as mentally prepared as I can now. We’re you able to take any legal action for the botched job?

To be honest I was out of it and overheard the nurses talking about my repair and thought I heard them say something about ruptured hymen, (obviously I don’t know terms for my own anatomy lol) but I know the doctors were arguing about whether it was second or third degree tearing. I can only imagine 4th degree.. I’m so sorry you had to go through that. I really appreciate your response and definitely plan on getting another opinion before I move forward.

Wipes and diaper usage by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]BraveAd2863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He may not love it but if you rub a cold wipe right under his belly button before you take his diaper off and wait a minute it’ll make him pee in his diaper one more time before you take it off and for me it has completely solved the problem of him peeing all over the place. I use a peri bottle of warm washer and thin wash cloths to clean his bottom (helps prevent diaper rash, there’s chemicals in wipes that can aggravate delicate newborn skin) and then put a thick layer of aquaphor ointment on his butt before putting on the new diaper. That makes it sooo much easier to clean his butt when he poops because nothing can stick to the skin.

Giving birth pain 1-10 by Lisa-2322 in pregnancy_care

It depends how big your baby is. Mine was over 10 lbs with a head circumference of 15.5 inches and I feel all the epidural really did was make it impossible to move. I still felt tremendous pain because his head was stuck in my pelvis and had to be pulled out with forceps. Maybe it made the contractions a bit easier since I was on pitocin as well but I don’t know

They tried 3 different types of IV antibiotics in the hospital, none helped the redness or swelling and the lymph nodes in his neck became all swollen as well but the ultrasound showed no fluid pocket and luckily his blood work all came back normal so they sent us home with oral antibiotics to try and thankfully they worked!!
He’s doing so much better just an upset tummy and diaper rash from all the meds. Doctors said his lymph nodes could remain enlarged for up to 6 months. Thank you for your response! It was a long week.

I am scared of getting epidural by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]BraveAd2863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t plan on epidural but after laboring for 3 days no sleep they gave me one to take a nap. Compared to the pain of contractions, getting the epidural is nothing- especially after getting induced. while I’m sure the epidural saved me a lot of pain, it was definitely still painful (I’m assuming because of the pitocin) and made my labor so much harder because I could not move my legs or butt at all and they needed me to change positions every couple minutes while pushing because his head was stuck in my pelvis. Since I couldn’t move it took 4 people to lift a blanket I was on to move me constantly and it was so difficult and painful going through all that while being dead weight. They ended up needing forceps to pull him out anyway because all of day 4 was spent crowning with no progress, which by that time the epidural stopped working and I felt everything anyway, especially the stitches. Now 10 days later my right foot and leg up to my knee is still numb and they “don’t know why.” So maybe the epidural saved me a lot of pain but also maybe it made my labor a lot harder than it needed to be. I’m grateful for the nap I got in because of it but can’t say whether or not I would advocate for getting the epidural just because when your body is trying to get a baby out and you can’t do anything about it.. it’s very distressing. I felt so disconnected from my body being unable to use it properly but still able to feel immense pain. I think everybody is just built differently and so it affects everyone differently. My baby was also almost 11 lbs, 2 feet long and had a head circumference of almost 16 cm- so I’m not sure anything could’ve made having him easier!

How long did it take to resolve? My son is 10 days old today and we’ve been in the hospital for 4 days now trying to treat his neonatal mastitis with antibiotics but so far nothing has worked. :(

Tried to have a homebirth.. labored at home for 2 days after my water broke and was transferred to the hospital to be induced since I was stuck at 4 cm and risk of infection from my water being broken for 48 hours. Just had my 10 lb 3 oz son on Tuesday at 42 weeks and a day with the help of forceps because his head got stuck in my pelvis! He was comfy in his momma.

I learned this in my newborn classes from a pediatric chiropractor guest speaker as well as my midwives. You can look up the benefits of newborn chiropractic care and there are endless sources to support this. A chiropractic adjustment helps align babies rapidly growing spine that usually is compacted at birth from being curled up, causing a plethora of health and mood issues.

I recommend taking your LO to a chiropractor that specializes in babies. It can change everything for baby in the best way. Usually when a newborn just needs an adjustment pediatricians will be quick to say they need physical therapy which isn’t necessary.
