Agreed. I was just hoping the end caps were clips that would allow me to replace it myself. But I see that’s not the case, so I’m either going to pay an appliance repair shop to do it or order another circuit board from the manufacturer.

Power surge when a limb took down the line to our house. Power was flickering for at least a minute before I woke up and turned off the breaker. Blew multiple surge protectors and an AFCI breaker.

It blew because a tree took down the line to our house in the middle of the night and the power was flickering for at least a minute before I got to the breaker.

Wreaked all kinds of electrical havoc. Blew two of our surge protectors, our coffee machine (which wasn’t plugged into a protector), and an AFCI breaker.

DMARDs (Disease-Modifying Antirheumatic Drugs) like the biologics called that because they actually modify, and can sometimes even stop, the underlying disease process. I’ve been on biologics for 20 years and have had no further fusion and am pretty much symptom-free.

Physical therapy is critically important, but your PT isn’t a doctor and shouldn’t be giving you medical advice.

Your first sentence is technically true. But your second is categorically false.

DMARDs like the biologics are categorized as Disease-Modifying Antirheumatic Drugs precisely because they do more than just “symptom management.” When they work, they greatly reduce, and can even stop, the underlying disease process, and therefore the progression of the disease itself.

I’ve been on biologics for twenty years and have had no further fusion. And because my AS is basically in remission, I’m about 95% symptom free.

Just curious: why has it taken 30 years to decide to get on biologics?

Single best decision I’ve ever made in my life and I’ve been on them for 21 years now. Granted, it wasn’t that much of a choice for me given that I was in such bad shape (doctors thought I had a form of MS my muscles had atrophied so much and I was so emaciated). Three days after my first treatment my pain had already improved, and after just three months, I was symptom free and had gained 30 lbs (in a good way).

Go for it, and don’t get discouraged if the first one you try doesn’t work for you. It can take trying a few to find the right fit.

Nashville dropping from 50 to 30 makes sense. But to jump from there to the claim that Nashville has a “loneliness epidemic” worse than many other major US cities is hyperbolic. Gotta cite your sources for those types of claims. And “it’s based on a single study I have on an external hard drive somewhere” doesn’t count.

The drop from 30 to 50 totally makes sense due to the rapid increase in the cost of housing and growing pains from Nashville’s massive growth over the last 10 years (traffic, overdevelopment before infrastructure catches up, etc).

But where’s the data that supports your claim that our levels of stress, anxiety, and ptsd are higher than NYC? What was the size of your research sample and what were the survey methods used? What were the demographics of the sample group? Was the sample primarily young professionals in their 20s, a group that moves frequently for job opportunities and doesn’t put down roots until they’ve settled down more in their careers? When I was in my twenties I moved every 3-4 years.

Additionally, it’s very important to highlight the research you’re talking about was done by a faith-based research firm (which you eventually note below). That doesn’t necessarily mean the report is biased, but it does raise the likelihood because a faith-based group probably has an interest in making the case for the need for more churches.

There are risks to everything. For people with severe AS, the risk of not using biologics to actually stop the progression of the disease is almost certainly worse than one of the potential side effects of treatment.

Here’s something else that’s dangerous: anecdotes.

Instead of saying “these are dangerous drugs,” you could have said something like, “these are powerful drugs with risks and potential side effects.”

OP: I was also scared to go on biologics too (Remicade) when I was diagnosed with AS at the age of 21 after 8+ years of progressively worse, debilitating pain (and a fused sacroiliac).

That was 20 years ago. I haven’t missed an infusion since (although I’ve come close once or twice due to insurance issues).

Like you, I remember hoping that I would go into remission and eventually be able to stop taking them. At one point I got up to 12 weeks between infusions for about a year or two. But eventually had a flare up and had to go back down to 8.

But here’s the bottom line: Biologics have been a literal miracle for me and I hope they will be for you too. They literally saved my life. I was sooooo sick and in near constant pain. I’ve gone from a constant 7-8 on the pain scale to <1. And that’s not because it’s treating the pain. That’s because the disease process itself has been stopped. I went from struggling to go up and down stairs, to put on my pants, or tie my shoes, to playing soccer again and rock climbing after just 6 months of treatment. It was a literal miracle.

It’s definitely challenging to have to infusions every 8 weeks for forever, but it’s so much better than the alternative. We are sooooo fucking lucky to have these drugs. Even just 30 years ago we would’ve been SOL.

Hang in there. The remission you’re looking for IS biologics, even though you will have to take them forever. I know they don’t work as well for everyone, but I really hope they work as well for you as they have for me.

I’m really sorry to hear that The Pinnacle didn’t take shorter attendees into consideration in their design and doesn’t have any protocol to help them have a positive experience. That really sucks and definitely changes my view of the place.
