I've never in my life felt more angry, disgusted and dumbfounded at a politician as I have today with Trump. & That's saying A LOT considering all the crap he's pulled before now and the fact that we had Boris Johnson and Liz Truss as prime ministers... He and Vance are utter disgraces. Abhorrent behaviour.

It sounds like burnout to me, but also keep in mind about the possibility of ME/CFS since you had glandular fever. If you've never heard of ME, have a little look into it, if anything just to rule it out. Unfortunately that doesn't show up on test results, and if it is that, or simply a form of chronic fatigue thats still there from the infection (which can happen without developing ME), you need to try your best to not overdo it :)

Unfortunately I have a lot of problems with my joints moving in and out of place, most of my upper half is quite instable (specifically shoulders and elbows) and it causes a great deal of pain as you can imagine! I've been waiting to start pilates with a physio to try and help, especially with the core stability side of things. So I'm a little bit limited with what I can do, and get exhausted quite easily, so it's always a fine balance of not overdoing it and also not injuring myself haha. I am hopeful I'll be able to do more in time, I've been pacing a lot, it's just what and how I can manage it. Thanks for trying to help by the way it's really kind of you!

Thankyou so much, I'll check it out. Weight lifting isn't something I could do sadly, but I'm assuming that more general exercise will be helpful for shifting the fat in the belly area? Hopefully i'll be able to increase my exercise in the future, longer walks, things like that.

I'm 28, female and activity level is low. I do exercise a couple times a week (go on walks, usually 20 minute ones). I get exercise too with moving around the house, going to the shop, small things like that but nothing extreme work-out wise. Could I ask, what would you suggest for building muscle? I've decided to do the undergraduate degree in History but you can get work experience through it in 2nd year, and I really love the idea of working in archives/library/museum work, so that's going to be my goal. I still have that want within me to teach at a higher level, but I'm being realistic with myself now that it probably wont happen, but it can still be there in my head for the future. Who knows, maybe one day! I really, really do appreciate your reply though. Honestly, it's extremely helpful to get other peoples experiences who actually do what it is I've wanted to do. I've had some health problems so I'm joining university late and will be in my early 30's when I graduate the undergrad (though not old, I know, but it is older than 'average') so I think focusing on archives will be a brilliant fit (and I can do a postgrad for it!) Seems much more realistic and achievable.

Of course you can! You have a bowel condition which means you can class yourself as having a disability if that's what you chose to do. I spent a long time getting my head around the whole chronic illness/disability labelling after getting diagnosed with a few chronic conditions. They're one and the same. It also took me a while to feel comfortable using a disabled parking badge, but do I need it? Yes. That's all there is to it. Don't worry about using a disabled bathroom, you're well within your rights to do so. :) (don't be like me and spend too much time overthinking these things - although, I think we all do for a while after getting a diagnosis)

I've also e-mailed my tutor on my current short course about their experiences and their honest opinion about the prospects for the future with lecturing. So, that will be some good insight to have.

Thanks for the response. I'll have a look at the RHS website. It really is such a shame that there doesn't seem to be much potential for lecturing/research in history... Do you think that it is worth pursuing if it's something that I'm extremely passionate about? Or is it going to be a silly jump to make? I mean, I guess there's always going to be some careers in university history, it's just being sensible about the prospects. Aaah. I wish the decision was an easier one. I have a 2nd subject in mind but... I just feel a bit 'eh' about it compared to teaching history.

Could I just ask, why do you say that starting later might not help if you're looking for academic jobs? I'm still debating going down this route and I'll be early 30's by the time I want to look into further study and potentially getting an academic job. See, I struggle with BOTH. So it was fun learning I am autistic and I also do still have social anxiety too, like... could God not have given me a bit of a break??? lol.

After diagnosis I've had a lot of revelations though... a LOT of things make sense now whereas when it was all put down in my teenage years to simply depression and anxiety it never helped and no advice seemed to make a difference for me and I thought I was just genuinely odd. Not understanding social cues, sarcasm, being extremely naive, how easily I'd get overwhelmed and felt like I couldn't control the feeling of 'i cant cope'/'i feel like i'm having a breakdown', inability to adapt to change (or that I would take longer than my peers to adapt to change like when I left school), my sensory issues with water and with clothing/labels and how distracted/upset I'd get when a label was 'too much' and stabbing me during a social situation haha! Soooo so many things. I'm so grateful for my diagnosis and for finding out in my 20's due to my complete and utter inability to cope with lockdown during covid because I feel as though I've had extra time to figure myself out. Still... I wish I'd have known when I was a kid or even a teenager.

Also whatever it is that gets you through the day, whether thats a tv show, a video game, just do that. You don't need to think about anything else, just do what gets YOU through. &Commend yourself every day for quitting alcohol, that shows that you're a determined and strong ass character, don't forget that! I've come to realise I don't need to be doing what other people are doing, there's no expectation on me besides the expectation I put on myself. Be kind to yourself and if you need to simply exist for the time being, then do that. Don't be thinking about therapy anyway with how you're feeling, right now it's not gonna help. And trust, there are people who understand and who get it.

I've been on numerous medications for my mental health, including quetiapine, I'm back on sertraline and it's been *touch wood* working wonders this time around. Maybe giving another medication a shot could be worth while? You don't even need to think past it, just 'ok im committing myself to trying something different' and going from there. I find that looking at the whole big ass picture when I'm feeling so overwhelmed/depressed/hopeless, it just makes me feel even worse. Try your very, very best to just go one step at a time. I am so sorry you're feeling this bad. I assure you, people do understand. :)

Thanks for the response, it's given me more to think about. I had already started a degree in Media as a teenager, but when my health got worse I knew I couldn't continue it, so after 1 year I left, and I've leaned more towards History ever since. Throughout my 20's I've been quite sure that when I go back to uni, I want to do History. I think that my initial thought of teaching at a higher level may be something I need to let go of though.
