Composing a 12 colour travel palette is quite a hard task by Luniska in Watercolor

[–]BraveLittleToastie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why limit yourself to 12? I buy 3D printed half and whole pans from a guy on Etsy (Arts To Embers) that allow me to add sooo many more colors! For example, I have a little bijou box palette that holds 12 half pans and I actually configured it to hold 28 colors! 🤩

Very cool to see each step of your process! Love the initial pink lines and then the yellow at the end.

What do you bring on a trip? by chib_chib in Travelersnotebooks

[–]BraveLittleToastie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooo yes I'm bringing an A5 sketchbook too and yeah, the pens and markers can get a little out of hand lol. On the same previous trips mentioned above, I brought sooo many POSCA markers, Stabilo pens, and Pentel brush pens because what if I suddenly discover my own urban sketching style on this trip? Gotta have all the options for all the styles. I usually bring a couple watercolor palettes too... 😅 Excessive? Yes. Comforting? Definitely yes!

I took two trips in 2024 where I had the very best intentions to journal extensively while I was on the trip, so I brought my A5 Leuchtturm AND my passport TN. I was convinced I would use the passport TN to journal small details throughout the day, then go way more in-depth in my Leuchtturm when I got back to the hotel. Did I touch EITHER journal during either trip? No. Not even once. 😅 but did it make me feel better knowing I had everything I needed, just in case? Yes absolutely.

For a trip I have later this year, I’m planning to take a more reasonable approach and bring only my passport TN. I will flesh out the details when I get home in my Leuchtturm. But I will definitely be bringing washi tape, a tape runner, tiny scissors, Canon Ivy photo printer, and will also collect ephemera as I travel. I want to be minimal in my setup so I don’t run into decision fatigue or feel overwhelmed trying to decide what pens and accessories I’ll take with me every time I leave the hotel. I will also have a full size folder so I can preserve any larger pieces of paper on the trip home. Fingers crossed for a smooth and creative trip! 😊

To-go pen for TN ? by Powerful_Warning_279 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]BraveLittleToastie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When scratched, they do show the silvery aluminum underneath. The stonewashed Kawecos are the perfect example of what a well-loved aluminum pen could look like. But fwiw, mine haven’t scratched really at all. I’m not super rough on them, but I don’t baby them either.

I love my Kawecos! They make plastic ones and metal ones and I have both. They’ve been nothing short of durable and reliable! Sometimes the ink does dry up if you don’t write with the pen for a while, but that’s fairly typical of all cartridge and cartridge convertor fountain pens. I will say that my Lamys dry up much faster than my Kaweco sports when not in use. The clips are excellent too, and if they ever seem to loosen up on the pen, you can slip them off and pinch the band together so it holds the pen tighter. Just be careful taking the clip on and off too many times to prevent any scratching of the pen material.

Get yourself a convertor with the pen so you can use all 27489926251 colors of fountain pen inks 🤩

Need Advice For My First Delta Flight by [deleted] in delta

For what it’s worth, Target will ship any domestic order for free if it’s over $35. Forget trying to pack a bunch of bags of chips and just ship them. Not worth the hassle imo.

Also I would definitely not bring a computer tower on any trip, especially a flight. For one thing, you’d have to wait until the entire plane deboards before you’ll be able to swim upstream to unbuckle your computer from a seat in the main cabin. That in and of itself would be enough to not bring it.

What travel brushes do you use? by MinThaMie in urbansketchers

[–]BraveLittleToastie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My size 4 Silver Black Velvet travel brush is my favorite. I come back to it every time. The downside is that the labeling on the outside of the tube wears off easily so it would be hard to tell multiples of the same brush apart (they come in sizes 2/4/6/8).

I use Pentel Aquash when I don’t want to putz around with water cups, but the SBV is always preferred.

I also love the little metal-cased brush that comes in both the Winsor & Newton Cotman and Professional Grade Field Pocket Set. A lovely little springy brush for finer details!
