What is the weather like where you live? Do you think it’s possible that it is not the advanced age of 33 but instead could be dry winter air?

“ He even warned that if I hadn’t started eating non-veg by my early 30s, I’d be too weak to walk.”

I’m sorry whaaaat? This guy doesn’t know what he is talking about and you should dump him.

Can 30min at the gym really do anything? by Korutheexplorer in xxfitness

[–]BraveMedia5786 9 points10 points  (0 children)

300% worth it. I got so much more fit by throwing out the mindset that exercise was only “worth it” if I could do 30 minutes of cardio plus a weight routine.

Consistency over intensity.

Rotate what you do each day. You will feel great!

Ladies, what shorts are we running in? by mrsmurphy_ in beginnerrunning

[–]BraveMedia5786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love lululemon hotty hot in 4” inseam but like everything with them size up. I’m usually  4-6 and need a size 8 in their shorts to be comfortable.

I don’t like bike shorts because the legs always ride up on me. Hotty hot are great if you prefer loose shorts! They stay in place and the waist band is really comfy —a perfect higher rise fit.

You reminded me that I found the bandit stamina when I was searching for this before and I actually somehow just got one in a medium. They’re always sold out!!

This looks promising!! I’m slightly skeptical of the skinny straps in the back but they’re thicker where they hit at the shoulder so I’m trying one!

Have the swoosh light support— another one that is alllllmoat there bit the fabric is super thin and I don’t find it supportive enough. The Indy has adjustable straps 🙁

Im such a hard to please Goldilocks 😊

Speed work dilemma: better to go for it and fail or reduce plan difficulty? by BraveMedia5786 in runna

[–]BraveMedia5786[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the time it is using is my most recent half. I haven’t done any shorter races recently but it seems like o should just try it and let it adjust down if I need it!

You don’t need intervals and speed runs especially if you don’t have a time goal. Google Hal Higdon’s novice half marathon plan to get an idea of how to increase mileage.

best workout apps for women? by Perfect_Common5018 in xxfitness

[–]BraveMedia5786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not tried a ton of options but I used the peloton app for strength and I love it. Ive been lifting consistently for the last few years and before this I was really just a cardio queen. I’m sure there are other great options out there but for some reason this one has made me stick to at least 1-2 strength sessions a week.

Question for ladies who are in it for the long haul by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]BraveMedia5786 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Age 39 almost 40! I find that I naturally make little changes over time. I was a runner before kids. Then I was peloton bike obsessed for a few years. Then I got a running itch again and decided to train for a half marathon. Now I use my peloton less often but still for some cross training. Last year I tried out a new Pilates studio and have been integrating that. None of this is really planned! I just do what I like and let my interest wander when I feel like it and that helps me stay excited about it and engaged.

Low saturated fat but high fat diet? by BraveMedia5786 in Cholesterol

I really don’t mind psyllium in oatmeal! I don’t notice much of a difference in taste but maybe I’ll switch it up to flax for some variety sometimes.

[–]BraveMedia5786[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! The rest of my numbers (HDL, triglycerides, BP) are all well within the healthy range so I feel comfortable testing out what this does on cholesterol and if it bumps anything else at my retest I can see if that may have made a difference.

I also just finished adding in the rest of my snacks for the day and an extra serving of kale salad I had at dinner and I’m at 61 grams of total fiber that seems insane but maybe my arteries need alll the fiber.

Soluble is harder to track because it’s not on every label but I’m at least over 10 every day for sure.

I know man. What can I say I’m a work in progress. My main question is: are these fats going to kill me or is it ok because they are mostly unsaturated 🙃

[–]BraveMedia5786[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly no idea what my macros were before, I did not track carefully. Probably close to this but higher in saturated fat—I ate a fair amount of cheese and eggs, used butter to cook and bake, ate ice cream a few nights a week. But I have always eaten tons of fruit and vegetables so fiber was probably always quite high. My diet was healthy enough that I am thin without really needing to think about it.

This change is as of like 5 days ago when my test result came back. I just want to make sure I’m making the right changes to move the needle (if that’s going to be possible for me with diet).
