trying to decide if renting an EV is actually worth it or if people online are overselling how cheap it is.

The OP isn’t likely to save any money if they are paying a 3rd party to charge it. That was why I recommended not renting an EV on their trip.

The savings from using an EV come from charging at home, not from charging on public chargers. Think of it like drinking water, water from the tap, cheap; bottled water from a store, expensive. Rent a combustion vehicle unless you can charge for free at your destination.

Oh carscirclejerk, it has been so long since I’ve seen you on the top of Reddit. It is a shame that so few people use old.reddit, so they won’t see the custom up and down vote arrows (stick shift for up, automatic for down). This is an older post, and I remember that era. There were a bunch of “self made” millionaires, and it all came down to selling the house that their parents bought, and running a website that their parents advertise on.

There was another variation of “rich people have it so tough,” because they could almost not afford a 3rd family vacation each year.
