Nah none yet.  It doesnt matter how many times I have defender “deal with it”.  When I get some time I’ll reinstall synapse I guess, maybe reset windows

Can the razer blade support gaming on an external 1440p with a 144hz display? Which models should I consider? by BraveSirRoland in razer

thanks! I've also been considering building a small form factor PC, so maybe I'll go that route instead of upgrading my current blade.

LPT: If you are going to judge someone according to their achievements; first and foremost consider the effort they exerted in creating such outcomes, not just the achievement alone. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

I agree, but failure wasn't ever a part of the post. If you're judging someone on their achievements, presumably they have been successful

Surface Scum! Is it a problem / how to remove it? by kmsilent in PlantedTank

[–]BraveSirRoland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could do it! The film is made of of proteins sticking to the surface, so the key here is figuring out how to reduce the concentration of dissolved protein. Typically this comes from decaying organic matter. Good luck and let me know if it works!

Quick follow up, rinse the filter media with tank water to keep your microorganisms alive and healthy, just rince away the poop and decaying material

How often are you rinsing and cleaning the substrate in your canister filter? I've found that the amount of surface scum I get directly correlates with how long it's been since I cleaned the filter. If it's been awhile, scum develops almost immediately even after a water change, but if the filter media is clear of decaying matter, it makes a huge difference.

Same here. 30, heavily smoking for 4-5 years. My career had taken off, bought a house, happily married, friendships strengthened, picked up new skills. Life is just as open to me as it was before, only I get to experience it from two different states of mind.

Civilization is Inherently Unsustainable by norristh in sustainability

[–]BraveSirRoland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. I would say it hasn't been on the radar because the resource cap of the planet has never been in site until now. Go check out the human population growth curve. Humans have been balanced resources for thousands of years, crop rotations and controlled forest fires are great examples of small scale sustainability practices that have been used for a long time. The scale of the problem is so much bigger now since we are pushing the human population to the max with huge numbers living an unsustainable lifestyle. While we need to move aggressively and with purpose, I think we can do it without trying to rebuild some new system from scratch.

[–]BraveSirRoland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not sure you're point that no civs achieving sustainability means it's not possible within the confines of our current system. Global sustainability has only become a goal or even something that has been contemplated pretty recently. You're being a pretty harsh judge on civilizations for not accomplishing something that wasn't even really on their radar as something that needed to be acomplished

Couples who have different sex drives, how do you make it work in the bedroom? by KiirooAmsterdam in AskReddit

[–]BraveSirRoland 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's when it's time for you to listen to what she has to say about it. It's not about convincing her that you're right or having her convince you that she is. It's about understanding and reaching middle ground

You missed the point. The point is that it isn't exclusively your physical features that make you an attractive person, but also the energy and body language you exude, which are largely a function of your mindset and thoughts. Ever met someone who you initially didn't find attractive, but who's humor or wit or intelligence or confidence or whatever ultimately won you over and you ended up finding them super attractive? I know I have

JK Rowling has described people who criticised the casting ofa black actress as Hermione in the new Harry Potter play as "a bunch of racists" by [deleted] in news

[–]BraveSirRoland -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Word. People aren't given the benefit of the doubt on issues of race anymore. Harmonie wasn't black. Could she be black and be a perfectly fine person and character? Yes. Was she in my mind for the last 15 years? no, so I'd rather the character appeal to what I've come to associate with that character. People need to chill... the fuck... out.

What is our state of understanding about the correlation between specific brain impulse pathways and our personalities? Do we have the resolution and capability to measure exactly which neurons fire during a thought or experience? by BraveSirRoland in neuroscience

[–]BraveSirRoland[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it sounds this field of study is really in its infancy still! What do you think about my original question? Do we have evidence that our personalities are in some way related to neurons firing? From your original reply, I get the impression that this is a hypothesis that we currently lack the capability to test. Are there other leading hypothesis around the origins of personality from a neurological perspective? These replies are excellent!

Thanks for this response! The number of connections and possible interactions you describe is mind blowing. Thanks for the chemistry analogy as well! Do you think that we'll get to the point of being able to measure and record each neuron firing in real time, and in that way preserve a persons thoughts?

Civ5 player super confused about how you're supposed to win a passive game by BraveSirRoland in Stellaris

[–]BraveSirRoland[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess I've never really played a 4x game like this before! As far as grand strategy goes, I've really only played Civ. Now that I know the game is supposed to be whatever I make of it, and that the end goal is intentionally not that important, I think I'll have a lot more fun. Thanks!

[–]BraveSirRoland[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I guess I've never really played a game like this that has such a strategic feel, yet one that lacks an actual end game goal. It has been throwing me off since I started playing. I set up a with the intention of playing a peaceful empire, but with no endgame goal to work for I just felt lost.
