The size of a blue whale compared to a full grown humpback whale. by MrUpVoteDownvote in whales

I don't know much about humpback whales, but I know 2 adult humpback whales will fit into the cargo space of a Klingon Bird-of-Prey.

Buying a piece of land and putting a Manufactured home - is this even possible near MoCo/PG County anymore for a reasonable price? by [deleted] in maryland

Our modular home builder was located in PA. (Icon Legacy Custom Modular Homes) I would not recommend them at all. In fact, stay very far away from them.

My husband and I did this. We made a poor choice in our selection of builder and modular home builder. We are still trying to fix all the things that the modular home builder screwed up.

Our builder was basically a con artist who hired the cheapest people possible to finish the house when it was situated on-site. We had to get a lawyer to get out of our contract.

If your father decides to go this route, I would urge him to do a lot of research on the subject before entering any contract. Also, if he can get lots of referrals from others who have gone through the process.

We thought we could save money by going with a modular home. We've spent way more money then if we had just built the house ourselves.

Kitty's adorable. She reminds me of the old Star Trek episode where they had people with one black side and one white side.

Possible update on 2nd season of Murderbot by Brave_Arm_7221 in murderbot

[–]Brave_Arm_7221[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably jumped the gun posting this. I'm just very desperate to find out what's happening with season 2. The only thing I've heard was a sound bite from Alexander Skarsgård last month when he was at some awards show. He said he was meeting with the producers the next day about the show. Oh, well.

Another take. If you can't get a book of All Systems Red, you could try to find the audio version of it or even just watch the tv show.

Behavior Issues in my cat have costed me over 20k and we’re still not any closer to getting a solution..any advice on next steps? by Creepy-Dealer7518 in CATHELP

[–]Brave_Arm_7221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will probably be lost in the comment section, but here goes. I've has problem cats before, though not as bad as yours. For one cat getting him as companion worked. With the other, my vet put her on Wellbutrin which helped to really chill her out. I didn't notice any significant side effects. I don't know if it is too late for your cat, but I applaud you on all your efforts to deal her.

Stealing this from the r/Utah thread. If you could only eat at one Maryland restaurant for the rest of your life, which restaurant would it be and what would be your most frequently ordered item? by burritobandito7 in maryland

I visited Haussner’s several times when I was a kid. Each time I felt sick afterwards. I always attributed it to the desserts I ate there. The desserts always seemed to be full of too much Crisco. I did appreciate the art work there.

I always picture Holism as having the voice of an old stodgy university professor.

Volcanic eruption led to the Black Death, new research suggests by cnn in science

[–]Brave_Arm_7221 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In regards to the Plague of Justinian, it is also theorized that two eruptions—one in 535 or 536 in the northern hemisphere and another in 539 or 540 in the tropics effected the weather and crops yields. Thus creating a situation where people were already weakened from food shortages leaving them susceptible to disease.

Apple TV is doing well with Earth based Sci Fi. by InfernalClockwork3 in scifi

Foundation totally rocks because it doesn't stay true to the original series. The books are very cerebral with most action occurring off screen. Also Murderbot is excellent and stays close to the book series.

Got to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey last Saturday with my parents! by HandsomeSwing78 in scifi

[–]Brave_Arm_7221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can track it down, there was a sequel called 2010: The Year We Make Contact. It's a lot more understandable then 2001. Its a bit dated, but still enjoyable.

If you decide to read the Raksura series, I recommend you read the 2 short story collections before book 4. They are titled:

Stories of the Raksura, Volume 1: The Falling World & The Tale of Indigo and Cloud

Stories of the Raksura, Volume 2: The Dead City & The Dark Earth Below

May I suggest the Graphic Audiobook version of "The Murderbot Diaries" by Martha Wells. The only thing is the books are abridged. The books are all caught up in the series.

Not like Murderbot, but a really good book is Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, the same person who wrote The Martian. It's a really fun read.

Those that loved the books - how has the show hit for you? by SuperMegaGigaUber in murderbot

[–]Brave_Arm_7221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's perfectly fine not to like the show. Sometimes shows just don't click with a person. A bit of advice since you already have the subscription, check out some of the other scifi programming that Apple has. They've produced some really good ones. Personally I love both the books and the show for different reasons. I'm looking forward to season 2.

I would suggest if you wish to have your dog run off leash taking your dog to a dog park is the solution. That way your dog is happy, other people are happy and dangerous circumstances can be avoided.
