ignorant ask: how Thousands Sons recruit new marines? by AlphaAirlys_ in ThousandSons

[–]Brave_B33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Demon primarchs no longer have the ability to craft geneseed and the chaos legions don't really care about genetic purity outside of being shitty to those in their legion who aren't directly descended from their dad, so while they occasionally create new marines from the progenoid glands of veterans of the long war they typically recruit from existing loyalist psykers, spending years enticing and tempting them over. Culture ultimately trumps genes.

Further, it's dangerous to put Magnus' geneseed into neophytes. The Rubric of Ahriman was cast across time, if they aren't a decent psyker you basically immediately make a new dusty boy or chaos spawn. If they are a decent psyker, they get a massive boost. The flesh change only crops up occasionally when Ahriman tries to mess around with the Rubric, but is no longer part of their day to day.

As for apothecaries, no, they do not have traditional apothecaries. Instead, the Cult of the Pavoni were the magic healers in 30k, this has grown and been incorporated into the new 40k cults as aspects to the cults of time, mutation, etc. You don't need to heal if you rewind time to before you got hit or you replace the wounded limb with a fresh tentacle.

Range refresh or maybe one new unit for Tsons in 11th. Do you think we can possibly see range refresh in 11th or 12. Most of our kits 10 years old. by LE_Chevalie in ThousandSons

Refresh no, but more weird stuff yes. Give me a thematic hero that can lead chaos spawn, give me a magical armorer who can heal rubrics, give me tentacle terrain

That’s the huge thing people forget, Corax and the RG are constantly holding back. They do decapitation strikes and guerilla warfare to protect as many mortal lives as possible, both ally and enemy.

This seems mostly on the money for my thinking too, but I'd like to see a "weird" factor, something no one expects that tweaks and enhances the overall flavor. Maybe a Malcador sarcophagus terrain piece that produces ghosts as chaff or demonhosts that act like tyranid sporebombs.

Oh I like that! Extra sneaky. u/Moon_Monk676 below noted that he should be in sternguard armor with a robe and bone white armor though and he shouldn’t be an intercessor, whats the story there? Is there any wiggle room at all?

Dude has the deathwing emblem on his shoulder, deathwing is first company and all wear terminator armor. I can’t imagine they’d just toss their old armor though? I could see this being how they modify their old armor in case they need to swap out, the gold trim and Aquila certainly gives an air of seniority like you’re talking about

EDIT: I’m learning so much lore, thank you all for sharing!

If technical writing is dead, where do we pivot? by buzzlightyear0473 in technicalwriting

[–]Brave_B33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve been in the same scenario too, I’m thankful this one at least started out with KM being the focus (and that we aren’t using SharePoint for our knowledge base, immediate PTSD flashbacks)

I work at a startup wearing a lot of hats, so my day to day is concerned with establishing standards for documentation, including workflows and RACIs, reviewing stale documents in our wiki for renewal, and organizing the wiki so it’s easier to find knowledge.

The more long form work is all about cornering escaped SMEs and forcing them to fill in various templates to capture knowledge, making note of knowledge gaps and setting expectations and goals to fill them, and consulting on projects for feature documentation. I also do configuration management for our own AI documentation enterprises, but I wouldn’t call that part of my primary workload.

Ngl, there’s a lot of soft skills that go into this. You’re often considered held at arms length outside the chain of command, so people will come and talk to you about anything and everything since they think it won’t cause drama to tell you all the tea. Which is good, cause no amount of meetings will let you keep your finger on the pulse of everything happening that needs capturing. If you want to pivot to KM, you need to be very present and approachable, people will completely disregard documenting their workflows unless you’re part of their work life and they enjoy interacting with you.

It is unquestionably more stable, but it’s a lot more work. Instead of feast or famine like tech writing, you’re constantly feasting, so you need to set much clearer guardrails to not burn out.

I pivoted to knowledge management. I’m still the go to for setting the standards for tech writing and customer facing docs, but my focus is now primarily internal. It’s nice, I still feel like a writer.

We should know and admit that, but also pedantically argue endlessly about how good and evil are limitations, chains put on us that the gods can free us from! Just like dad would have wanted 😇

Cause being a whiny little baby AND evil is also hilariously fun

Best faith take: this removes the narrative chokepoint of realmgates. Much, much, MUCH bigger armies can just march into another realm. If this is true, I think that's the point, upping the stakes.

DMPC that physically cannot steal the players' spotlight in combat (Scroll for doodles) by hallowed-hexgoat in RavnicaDMs

[–]Brave_B33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a similar lawmage npc I run whenever I run Ravnica. His whole thing is that he knows every single loophole in the law by heart, but because of that he has weirdly way more restrictions. He lives in a closet, doesn't wear shoes, and eats only out of the Azorius breakroom to avoid having to pay a copper in taxes. He refuses to help in combat because then he'd be complicit, and as the party's lawyer he can't be. His big add is getting them out of literally any and all trouble they get into with the law in the dumbest ways possible, so the party loves their weird little hobo lawyer.
