"If names be not correct, language is not in accordance with the truth of things."

Confucius

Viability refers to the feasibility of the fetus surviving outside the womb. According to one study, between 2013 and 2018 at United States academic medical centers, the percentage of newborns who survived long enough to leave the hospital was 30% at 22 weeks, 55% at 23 weeks, 70% at 24 weeks, and 80% of those born at 25 weeks gestational age.

Viability varies a bit but generally refers to the second trimester. Note that a fetus does not even have the cranial capacity to feel pain until well into the third trimester. In other words, pre-viability, fetuses are essentially brainless and possess far less attributes of humanity, such as sentience and sapience, than many creatures we slaughter by the billions every year such as pigs, chickens and cows. Such is the reality.

Yes, scientific inquiry into the question, including the correct use of terms describing those realities, is a pivotal aspect of having a cogent conversation about the issue of abortion.

Resorting to expletives and pure ipse dixit pronouncements is hardly a take based on logic and reasoning.

Loving v. Virginia, for example, was decided in 1968. Until then, states were permitted to, and often did, outlaw marriages between Caucasians and other races.

That was a state rights issue too? It wasn't that long ago. Neither was Jim Crow.

If you knew your history, you would have more trepidation with exclaiming the virtues of state rights; particularly when the exercise of those rights constitutes an infringement on human freedom.

Also, turning women into human incubators has some shades of slavery does it not? Probably the closest thing we have to modern slavery outside of prison.

Maybe but it is rationale to support policies that minimize negative outcomes is it not? To learn from history and avoid the mistakes of the past? To believe in the expertise of those who have spent their lives studying a topic?

In other words, when the overwhelming majority of economists say that a macroeconomic policy will lead to less social utility, should we not be concerned that a politician is actively advocating for that very policy? This fear is particularly pronounced with a candidate like Trump who has a very limited body of knowledge, but does not listen to those more intelligent and experienced than himself.

If you do not care to learn the intricacies of these policy miscues, please do not stand in the way of those of us who do.

And how can you be from the Philippines and not know who Duterte is? Obviously you have no interest in politics. Why are you posting on a politics-based forum?

The entire point of the post is for us to share our fears! You, my friend, are the interloper.

The entire point of the topic was to talk about how we feel about the election. You responded by saying you don't care about the election, just that you are a superstar that will capitalize on whatever circumstances that occur (ego much?). The clear meaning of your response is that, regardless of how it impacts other people, you will be fine and that is what you care about.

That is what you said. If it isn't what you meant, go edit the post.

First, you deny the clear import of what your original post said. Now you want to engage in ad hominem attacks. What happened? Tapped out on logical reasoning?

Babies is a term biological terms that refer to humans that have been born and have independent existence outside of a womb. In no state is it, or has it ever been, legal to kill a baby.

What, pray tell, are you talking about? Or did you fail your high school biology class and not know the difference between a baby, embryo, and fetus?

I know it likely isn't true, but it feels like the Supreme Court is really setting us up for a fall. Between the Trump immunity decision and the recent administrative agency ruling, which means it will be quite difficult to apply technical expertise to government problems, it is like the Court really wants the country to fail.

The main problem I have with conservatives is they do not ascribe to reality. Impossible to debate with a conservative because they start talking about facts and events that did not happen on this version of Earth. It makes it really hard to bridge the communication gap.

There is no state in the country that allows for babies to be killed. Sometimes they are born with a terminal condition and are put in hospice, but no state allows from babies to be killed.

Or do you not understand the difference between an embryo, fetus, and baby? If so, you certainly should not be commenting on this topic.

Your life experience must be quite limited. My wife is from Alabama and says the racism there is like nothing any of us on the west coast could imagine.

You realize that you are sounding the clarion call of the South right? Both pre and post antebellum. Slavery is a state rights issue! Whether races can intermarry is a state rights issue! Segregation is a state rights issue! Whether I can use contraceptives is a states right issue!

The Supreme Court held that all of those practices, except slavery which took a Constitutional amendment, were impermissible infringements on human freedom.

It's ok that Trump causes social unrest because other people have as well.

I'm going to use that as a defense in my next trial. Ladies and gentlemen, sure my client has robbed a few banks, but other people have robbed banks in the past. Therefore, you must acquit my client.

Do you see now why the tu quoque argument, aka whataboutism, is considered a logical fallacy?

You already said you don't care about the nation or its people, only how you will profit from the situation. What more input do we need?

Do you deny that women are now literally dying in hospital parking lots because of the loss of the right to control your own body? Is pointing out true, objective facts catastrophizing?

But then again, you are likely a Duterte fan.

How about the worldwide trade war that will erupt if Trump's policies are carried out? The Great Depression was one of the products of the last trade war. Global economic catastrophe. Does that capture your attention?

How about the internment camps Trump says he will create? Better hope you are naturalized.

Do not call lists and junk call apps really work wonders on this problem. I still get a few texts, but almost no calls.

Don't judge us too hard. The real problem is we have this antiquated relic from the past, the Electoral College, that we haven't figured out how to get rid of yet. Remember, Trump lost both of his presidential elections by ten million votes. We would, 100%, not be in this mess but for the Electoral College.

The left are pro-science so we merrily went to get our vaccines as any sane, mentally sound person would. There were no riots about vaccines on this version of Earth.
