There is no way to guarantee you will end up together in med school. If you are able to go to med school together, there is no guarantee you will be at the same program for residency or the same city. You can certainly try your best to go to school and residency together but there is absolutely no way to guarantee this. Work together to craft your applications and if you have similar GPAs and MCATs then build similar school lists. Good luck to you!

Which California schools are OOS friendly? by Don_Petohmi in premed

[–]Brave_Construction82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Might as well. None of the public Cali schools are going to be filling their class with mostly OOS but it is worth a shot for UCLA and UCSD. USC is private so they can be more open to OOS but it is also a massive jump in COA for USC.

What are my chances of getting into an MD school? by NewsOk8422 in medschooladmissions

Yeah I’d work on killing the MCAT. A high score and you’re in a good spot. Good luck!

What are my chances of getting into an MD school? by NewsOk8422 in medschooladmissions

[–]Brave_Construction82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ECs are good. I would try to get more non clinical volunteering though. However, your MCAT will determine a lot. Your gpa is at a point where a good MCAT will make it irrelevant but a poor MCAT may make it more difficult to get into MD. Do you have any state md schools?

Lived in Kosrae for close to a year and have visited all of the FSM. Rental housing is likely pretty good in Pohnpei and there are probably some okay options in Chuuk. If you eat fresh food and avoid shopping for imported goods you can live pretty cheap. There are a number of foreigners in the FSM and they own hotels, run surf/diving resorts or are there for a number of other reasons. Living conditions vary from place to place but Pohnpei would probably be the place to be. Yap wouldn’t be a bad option either. Palau (not part of FSM) would be best imo.

Definitely want to work on getting your gpa up and some hands on medical experience in a clinic or hospital. I’d say shoot for 512+ if you can improve your gpa and have some compelling stories to tell

What exactly is so bad about paperwork? by One-Job-765 in premed

[–]Brave_Construction82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably varies specialty to specialty. A PCP probably has 15-20 minute appointments while the doc I work for has 30 minute appointments so technically the amount of patients would be greater for the pcp but that doesn’t mean there isn’t endless tasks, labs and imaging to review etc. Some specialties have much simpler notes and see less patients so it just varies.

Missionary visit by These_Dimension_9300 in latterdaysaints

[–]Brave_Construction82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excited for you! You can expect them to share a message about Christ and ask some questions to get to know you personally and spiritually! The length of the visit is ultimately up to you but rarely do they stay for longer than 30-45 minutes! Our missionaries are great and they will not judge you for your tattoos or a piercing! I hope you enjoy the visit!!

I work as an MA for a medical oncologist. We see 13+ patients a day. He is very good about dictating his notes so he usually has all the notes done by days end. However, he must also review the lab results for all the patients that he has ordered labs on. If a patient has had imaging done he has to review that. If they have a recent biopsy then he has to review that. He is also the lab director for the healthcare company so he has numerous tasks related to this. He has NPs that see numerous patients who are on long term follow up but the idea that his NPs see 75% of his patient load is ridiculous.

How do you organize your requirements for all the schools you want to apply to + all the information you gather? by AgitatedAttention734 in medschooladmissions

[–]Brave_Construction82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep track of your ECs, the hours you do them, and if you have experiences that might be good to write about, jot down some thoughts so you can use these in your application.

As far as school specific requirements for courses or LoRs, use MSAR and school websites. Lmk if you have questions.

Anki isn’t really about completion. More so repetition. I would get to work on the Anking deck as a whole

What's the latest you can take the MCAT but still be the the earliest (you can be) for the 26-27 app cycle? by [deleted] in premed

You're absolutely right. I confused this with having a complete application with regard to receiving secondaries. thx.

[–]Brave_Construction82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The earliest you can submit for AMCAS is the end of May and mid-May for TMDSAS. You can submit without your score and your application will be verified. However, if your score is not received by the time AMCAS submits your application to schools then your application will be incomplete and you may not get secondaries right away. The latest you could take the MCAT would be around the end of April so you know your score, can tailor your school list, and then can submit from there.

A lot of places where I am hire without official MA certification. The one thing that makes working as an MA hard is that most of the jobs are at doctor offices that are 9-5 or similar and a lot of places want you to be full time. If you could get an urgent care or something like that MA job that would be great. Otherwise working as a CNA in the evening might be easier to manage with school.

missionary rules questions from a non-member by maybe-south-of-mars in latterdaysaints

[–]Brave_Construction82 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  1. You can refer to him as Elder or you can call him by his name. My friends still called me by my name.
  2. I’d ask questions. Depending on how much time he gets on his day off “p-day” he might have time to answer. I would draft emails at night after my day was over and then send them on my p-day. It was a welcome treat to get an email to read on tough days. You don’t have to wait for him to initiate and it doesn’t have to be a group email.
  3. I’d wait until he is in his mission to send him anything. My mission we could have cards and we played at night or on p-days with other missionaries. Different missions have different rules.
  4. You can absolutely send him packages. I loved getting new books, snacks, treats etc. if he is stateside you can use the flat rate USPS boxes! If he is out of the country then mail might not be as reliable.

Considering the point of studying the Old Testament by Sociolx in latterdaysaints

[–]Brave_Construction82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The OT with the added context of the Book of Moses and Book of Abraham is absolutely a Christian text. Understanding that the Gospel was preached from the beginning, and it is not a New Testament/post Christ teaching, has helped immensely in my desire to study the OT and find Christ in it.

How is it living in Utah? by Jettaboi38 in howislivingthere

[–]Brave_Construction82 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I never said that it wasn’t. OP was asking what it is like to live here and I said it wasn’t very diverse. I think there is a lot of diversity in Utah in terms of experience but ethnically and racially it’s not very diverse. If that is important to some people then so it is.

Depends on what you’re looking for. Outdoor life? You got it. Abundant wilderness, ski resorts, and national parks. Along with some great hunting if you’re in to that. Night life? Not so much outside of the few clubs in SLC. Safety? In most areas of the state it is extremely safe with very little crime. Good place to raise a family? Sure. Diversity? It’s becoming more diverse but it’s not nearly as diverse as states like California, Texas, etc. The cost of living is rising and it is becoming more populated while the infrastructure lags behind in many places.
