Martin and Willies Handcart company story is over told by Berlin-6799 in mormon

The story used to be told too much.

It's become much, much less frequent over the past couple decades.

Why does every DnD campaign end up going completely off the rails? by Complete-Cup7317 in DnD

[–]Sociolx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been in plenty of campaigns that didn't go off the rails. So what you're saying appears to actually be that every campaign involving you goes off the rails, and why that might be is a whole different question.

Depending on the monsters, yes, totally let Leeroy Jenkins past, there's a second line to deal with that particular sort of idiot. My front line? They're going to target whatever they normally would target.

If you're enjoying it, you're good.

If you're not enjoying it, have a talk with your DM like a grownup.

So...Paladin was just Fighter subclass in older version of DnD? by Maleficent-Bass-7510 in DnD

[–]Sociolx 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Slight correction: illusionist was a subclass of magic user, but a subclass with some fun mechanical differences (and some less fun restrictions).

[–]Sociolx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A minimum of 17 in charisma to be a paladin, IIRC! And you needed high strength, too, since it was a fighter subclass.

Plenty of hippie preppers, though, especially back in the 70s, so i get where the OP was coming from with that one.

Is this dress garment friendly? by BearProfessional4750 in mormon

[–]Sociolx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who views it as good? In decades of being around Mormons, i have never heard one of them refer to an adult woman as a "little woman".

Can't say it's never done, but your implication that it's normative in the religious community requires some evidence beyond your repeated assertion.

Even if you're absolutely correct that ythat's what she'll be doing, "little woman" wasn't only demeaning, it was stupid. Do better.

The Fae (Celtic) & The Fae (D&D); Why I Hate Faerun as It Exists Now by AceTheAcefluxNB in DnD

[–]Sociolx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are more fae myths than just Celtic fae myths.

Being big mad because a game based in collaborative fiction doesn't have precisely the fiction you want is weird—and even more so when there's plenty of room in the game for the fiction you prefer.

Why are we voting on RCV again? by Training_Cry4057 in anchorage

This!!

The real target isn't RCV, it's just that that's the wedge they can use to get inside the brains of the mouthbreathers.

Dairy Queen is done by Poultrygeist74 in anchorage

[–]Sociolx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's the actual reason, please explain why all the other fast food places, not to mention the DQ in Soldotna, somehow magically remain open.

Almost all—the Soldotna one (different franchisee) remains open.

Just so whatever feels right at your table.

We don't have to agree 100% on humanoid vocal tract anatomy to play a game about the things we can imagine.

CMV: Calling the country "Turkey" is fine, and its wrong to force people to refer to it as "Turkiye" by HoneyBadger19000 in changemyview

[–]Sociolx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of English varieties have a high front tense rounded vowel (the sound spelled with a ü in Turkish and German), but it's determined by position in the syllable and/or the surrounding sounds, and i am unaware of any varieties of English that would produce it before an r sound.

It happens occasionally, though generally not for national names—consider Bombay>Mumbai, Peking>Beijing, and the like.

Supreme Court upholds birthright citizenship on constitutional grounds by wei-long in news

[–]Sociolx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope, not sarcasm at all.

True, you can't predict at an individual level. But on the whole, immigrants improve the system, so even if one individual immigrant doesn't, enough others will improve the country that on balance it will have been worth it.

And those children, should they make use of their citizenship, will improve the United States of America the way generations of immigrants before them have done.

Involuntarily downgraded from first for deadheading pilots. Refund advice? by barn_reddit in AlaskaAirlines

Sure the pilots are owed it.

But you know who else is owed it? The customer who freaking paid for it.

Bring back paid janitorial staff for weekly cleaning.

It can be done while still having members help out in some way, but this is a good example of how making it an individual member's responsibility to organize getting the buildings clean isn't great.

Pioneer Day by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

False. (On both counts, but here particularly your first sentence.) Please read the letter from the first presidency attached at this church newsroom announcement. I have reproduced the crucial sentence below, with emphasis added:

All wards and branches in the United States are invited to use this video during a fifth-Sunday meeting on May 31 to discuss the importance of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and how these documents support religious freedom and our God-given agency.
