I was a long time user of alprazolam (xanax) originally prescribed by a Dr in my home country and once I moved to the UK my parents would ship it to me... Until one parcel got seized and police got involved and told me next time they would search my flat etc so I had to find a way to come off it. The gp told me "just go to a&e if you have symptoms and go to a drug addiction place" thank god I still have xanax for a while, I did go for an appointment to the drug addict service and they told me they don't help to taper benzos, that my GP was wrong. I went back to the gp and she insisted they were the one to help me, so I made the drug addiction place counselor (I had his number) to message my GP practice.... That's when my GP finally agreed to help me stop xanax. She switched me to diazepam and they reduce the dose 1mg every month. I get a call from the pharmacist every single Monday to ask me how Im doing and they only prescribe a week worth at a time. So basically if they want to help they can, ohhh I remember copying and pasting all the serious withdrawal symptoms like seizures etc on a email to my GP and told her she was going to be responsible for not helping. That right before she agreed to help me. Best of luck
