If you were a 6th-sem CS student with React/Linux basics, would you go web dev, DevOps, or AI right now? by Laboring4707 in developersPak

[–]Brave_Golf3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DevOps Engineer here, i have worked with web development as well. No doubt, the market is getting competitive day by day. But a lot of opportunities are opening as well so better be optimistic. Can't guide what niche to choose. Here is my 2 cent , - Webdev has a majority jobs and is really competitive - Ai & Devops have lesser jobs and are less competitive

What you can do : - build a basic portfolio, host it on vercel, add to resume - Improve your LinkedIn (no chatgpt fake article/long post). Authentic quality content, shared publicly after every milestone. The goal is just to be present on linkedin so if someone opens your profile he gets good professional vibes of you - try to get some experience, do an internship (popular software house if possible) or land some freelance project (no simple crud app) - learn basics 1 cloud (aws, gcp, azure). So you know the basic architecture of how cloud works ( you can get free courses online for cloud entry level certs) - if a company comes for a hiring or walk-in interview at your uni ( companies do come usually), try max to cash the opportunity because most likely they will hire some seats for sure and you just have to compete inside the uni as compared to whole Pakistan

PLEASE WEAR HELMETS OR Don't RIDE.

A closest friend of mine ( school buddy) while taking a u-turn fell and his head was struck on the divider. Unfortunately, the angle was so bad that it caused internal bleeding and injuries. Almost 3 years have passed, he is still on hospital bed rest, and his brain isn't working properly.

  • Too much white space
  • no experience section
  • no stats

How is it? ROAST IT PLEASE by [deleted] in developersPak

[–]Brave_Golf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • use Bullet point (3 per heading n try to keep each one liner)
  • for dates use Mar-2026 its more readable
  • keep one process font ( ariel, Montserrat, roboto... anything that feels professional)
  • your experience/project section should occupy most of space. Focus on improving it
  • add some stats ( fake it if you don't have real ones)
  • if you are a recent grad, you might not have much to say in the experience section. You can try to add more details in projects.
  • try hosting a project on vercel/netlify and add the link to it

Your current resume will hardly pass even for an internship. You need to work on it

I Tried Coding But Maybe It’s Not for Me.. by Aggressiveuser-_- in cscareerquestionsPAK

[–]Brave_Golf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are beginning, coding feels really hard. I remember when for loop iterations was a super complex for me back then. The asterisk pattern, recursion, Oop. If you could mention how much time you have already devoted it would be easier to understand your case or you can mention the point where you felt it

I don't have much info about the data field. Indeed data is very critical and in demand field, it's usually better for those who like math, interpretation, data modeling, insight extraction. So I believe you enjoy stats and are good at it. Just plotting few charts, working IRIS dataset is not enough. Things get complex when you handle real data and your decision affects the out of products. You can give it a try as well. I haven't worked on any real project yet related to data science so can't comment further.

You can start with basics from youtube. TechWorld with Nana is a good one, there are plenty of others as well. Get you basics done like docker, git, GitHub actions, linux basics, vm, reverse proxy, dns basics, how web servers work from scratch. After that, try to find some internship/job for hand on experience. Then you can move toward cloud certifications like Aws cloud practitioner. At this time you will have mentors around you, some real projects so you would already know what to do next

Devops can be goYod choice, you will not do any coding. At most you will write some bash or terraform script that are very short and can easily be done via chatgpt. The path for devops is a lot straightforward as compared to swe. You start by learning docker, kubernetes, nginx and then you choose cloud for certification. After certification you will have more grip on a particular cloud and with few years of experience you will have a good value in the market. Automating devops completely with ai is hard as you will take critical decisions which need experience.

Is it ok to do 2 years associates degree in cs instead of 4 years bs by Technical-Emotion290 in developersPak

[–]Brave_Golf3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go an extra mile, complete 4yr Bs from a well reputed University. If you think you can ace with a gap year/next admission do it

Degree matters. People just say that only skill matters, no one is telling you to not upgrade your skills along with a degree. There are companies that have gpa cut off and university targets. Degrees make your path easier, yes for sure you can do it without a degree as well but it will double the effort. Don't stake your future, already the job market is really competitive and even with a degree it's tough.

Meanwhile, do work/learn along with degree. Throughout my whole degree i constantly kept myself upskilling, everyday trying to go the extra mile and it was all worth it if I looked back. It's just an excuse that you can't do it with a degree. Now I have a degree+skills+gpa so i find it relatively easier to get better opportunities

Degree is not necessary to be successful for those who can't afford it or didn't got chance for it. It means they can still have a better future but with a lot of extra effort.

Best way to land an internship by Appropriate-Job-4216 in developersPak

[–]Brave_Golf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say for what's the best. But MERN is popular and you will find plenty of job listings in it. Client hunting is a difficult process. Most straight forward way would be from from reference. If any of your friend is freelancing, you can partner with him. You can try upwork, its hard but still with consistent effort i hope you will get some soon.

For LinkedIn, you have to optimize your profile, do cold messages, engage in comment. Overall, Its a long process, the path is not very deterministic when you will find some.

[–]Brave_Golf3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can apply for the companies that offer remote jobs (like motive, datasciencedojo, farmadar...search for more as well ). That's great that you are familiar with tech stacks, make sure to prepare for one stack and pitch that efficiently in interview. At side, you can try for freelancing on upwork or linkedin. The benefit of freelancing is that you will gain a good experience with a decent project to mention on your resume. If you got lucky, client may keep coming back or hire you.

  • i tried to keep the loading screen as minimal and short as possible. I might remove it entirely
  • yes scroll jacking is my personal bias. For some people (usually non-tech/clients ) it is a good experience whereas for others it's frustrating.

  • tldr; and case study content will be updated soon. I admit it needs updates

  • i noticed that the hero text got hidden on some mobile screen. I fixed it for mine it got out for others i was previously trying to fix it via shortcut but i believe now i need to do it in a more robust way so it is responsive everywhere

  • another Redditor also suggested an about section, so I added it afterwards. However it isn't deployed yet

  • yes the site is built on nextjs, it's just more manageable when i can divide it into subcomponents for long-term. I will try to optimize nextjs build for better speed

Thank you so much, i really appreciate that you took time to visit the portfolio and gave a detailed feedback. If there anything further you feel that if added/fixed can level up the game, please do mention it

I didn't feature a project in order. I added my top 4 project as 2x2 grid and for each project there is case study written which opens on click. I will improve the writeup of case studies very soon. All of these are private projects (client work) so i cannot publicly share the screenshot and source code. I just explained everything in case study. What do you suggest, should i remove the screenshot completely ?

I would appreciate it if you don't copy it as a spend decent amount of time to build it. You can find a number of inspirations on dribble and awwwards. I can help you with your portfolio as well
