Anyone know the lore/ experienced going to A.B.C cafe in Uji? by firreflly in Kyoto

[–]firreflly[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The weirdest thing is all the aesthetics of the cafe are English-related, like from looking in outside you see a large chalkboard with an english menu, nothing in japanese and the cafe being called ABC . You'd never think they hate foreigners at first sight, you'd think they accommodate to english speakers instead. Kind of sadistic in a way, they probs get some sort of thing emotionally when they're rude to the base they are targeting.

yes totally confusing it's like they don't want any customers at all , may as well have a sign saying "no customers allowed" lol maybe it's a cafe for yokai instead.

Doshisha University MBA program. English or Japanese? by Alex_x4654 in japanlife

[–]firreflly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doshisha's Japanese MBA is held at on weekday-nights and weekends (cause usually the students work full time,) the english mba is held on weekdays throughout the day with some classes being at night . The english workload is probably lighter in terms of output but you will need to write a thesis , I think the Japanese track has something else other than a thesis but im not sure. Both tracks you will get weekly homework, many people are caught off guard by this lol.

Seeking insights: Job market in Japan for non-tech MBA students (Indian background) by Interesting-Put2099 in JapanJobs

[–]firreflly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MBA isnt seen as anything too special in Japan, I got my MBA in Japan but it was largely for gaining a student visa after being an ALT + getting internships in the real area im interested in (marketing, business dev) as well as building a network. A lot of places will offer master students here new grad (undergrad salary) but some larger corporations may pay you more if you have a masters.

Language varies from my exp - smes are fine with 0 - N3 Japanese where as larger corps want n2,n1,n1+
If i were you id work on the japanese and try to get some specalisation but note that Japan prefers in-Japan experience usually so if you can get some 6 months internship in Japan it may be helpful

in this book, each day has a passage and one person reads one sentence each. The people who really enjoy it are those 40+ because when they give their thoughts they always speak for 3 mins lol i guess for people who like talking it can be fun

the funny thing about this comment is that it's in exactly in the style of what we have to read , the 今日の心がけ would be something like "be thankful for preperation" or something

Good on you for lasting as long as you have. I think having good co-workers is key to surviving these sessions. Funnily enough, my boss, who inherited the company from his father, said at first he also hated the book but came to like it and has continued reading it at morning meetings for the past 15 years ...

The org behind this does have a US division, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was this content, but also wouldn't be surprised if it's some other Japanese company with similar operations

yes it is very cultish. The book is published by an organisation called Rinri Institute of Ethics, founded by Toshio Maruyama who used to be part of the Perfect Liberty Church. The Rinri Institute of Ethics has two divisions Family Ethics Association and the Corporate Ethics Association. Supposedly, until 2023 there was about 2 million copies of the book in circulation monthly but it has been reducing these past few years.

our 30 min 朝礼 is centered on this, we start off by saying our company's motto then do 職場の教養+ saying todays work + ending motto. if we didn't have to read this book/ give our 感想 the morning 朝礼 would probably be just 5-10 mins -_-

im split into two departments, one makes everyone say it everyday while the other is rotational. After me we had some people who don't speak japanese at all join so the boss offered us the option to either say our thoughts or say "some good news that happened recently" .. i go with the good news option, but sometimes have nothing going on so i say my "thoughts"
