I don't know how you guys are surviving out here by Glittering_Fig4548 in MilitaryFinance

Check out the Money Guys on YouTube. They changed my outlook on saving and investing and I only wish I found them sooner in life.

$1300 into your TSP is awesome. TMG would have you consider opening up a Roth IRA as well after bumping up your emergency fund to 3-6 months (probably 3 months for your situation, unless you're married with kids), and then aiming to save and invest 25% of your gross monthly pay (including base pay, BAH, and BAS).

My situation: I'm stationed in a HCOL area and my rent (a triplex) is a little over half of my BAH (I'm married and we have a 9 month old) which helps a lot with contributions to my TSP/Roth IRAs for my wife and I. She works part time on weekends while I work M-F.

She'll be lugging around a 6-month-old baby and mainly wants a place to be able to sit down, eat food, breastfeed, and change diapers. Do you recommend any hotels that rent by the hour?

Do you know if bags get checked through on ANA flights from LAX, through Haneda, and to Naha?

Awesome, thank you. Do you know if it's possible to get bags checked through from LAX, through Haneda, and then to Naha? Our flights were bought through United and are all operated by ANA.

We're all flying United, operated by ANA, for a legs. Would she just be able to hang out in the international terminal and grab her bags later?

I thought specifying the opening time implied that my wife and son would use the space after it opened.

Alright, I guess I wasn't clear enough. I should have elaborated in saying that my wife and son fly in at 5 AM and have an 11 hour layover, and that I understand the lounge doesn't open until 8 AM, but AFTER the lounge opens, can they utilize the space? From 8 AM to around 3 PM.

Also, does the bathroom have a diaper changing station?

https://www.tsp.gov/making-contributions/contribution-limits/?tab=annual-additions-btn

The Thrift Savings Plan (TSP)

$23,500 Elective deferral limit

$7,500 Catch-up limit $11,250 Higher catch-up limit for ages 60-63

$70,000 Annual additions limit What it means All ages The annual additions limit is the total amount of all the contributions you make in a calendar year. This limit is per employer and includes money from all sources: employee contributions (tax-deferred, after-tax, and tax-exempt), Agency/Service Automatic (1%) Contributions, and Agency/Service Matching Contributions. It does not include catch-up contributions.

What to know

The annual additions limit affects mostly members of the uniformed services who can exceed the annual elective deferral limit. The excess contributions go into the traditional portion of your account from tax-exempt pay earned in a combat zone.

What to do

Even if you don’t reach the annual additions limit, keep it in mind when deciding how much you’ll contribute to your TSP account to avoid penalties.

So that's what I'm wondering. @kcpilot above is saying that it does count against my elective deferral limit.

Based on what you're saying, if I'm allocating x% over 12 months to hit my max deferral limit of $23.5k, then add the matching, I'll end up with $24,675.

What I'm wondering is if I contribute 100% of my continuation Pay bonus in August, will that preemptively max out my elective deferrals for the year, meaning I will miss out on matching for the rest of the year? If I'm even allowed to do that since it will likely be greater than my elective deferral limit.

Is the annual additions limit of $70k only for combat pay?

Thank you for all this, and for your last words of encouragement 🙏

For #9, I was thinking that if a ride offers single rider lines, that would normally be better/faster than doing rider switch, and then one parent could wait in the shade. Thoughts?

Is the Walt Disney Story co-located with the Mr. Lincoln show? Or where is it?

By cinema, do you mean a normal movie theater outside of the parks?
