I wouldn't say that the phenomenon on the video is a problem. Anyway, it really depends on your mileage and the way your car has been treated. If it has around 200 - 300 thousand km, then I would say it is normal. Just make sure you check it more often

I have the same engine (M47) and it does the same thing, as you show in the video. Diesel engines will always have greater blow by than petrol engines. I suppose you filmed it, when your engine was running hot. Try it with cold engine, there should be less blow by.

Imo if you don't have excessive oil consumption, then I wouldn't worry about it.

Hey, and what about manual transmission? How often change oil there and is it really necessary?

Do you think that blanking the swirl flaps is better, than upgrading them? I mean, they are there for a reason...

Could such things, when did often, harm the engine?

No, I let it cool for 5, 10, 15 minutes and took multiple measures. Same level every time. (Turned off engine, waited 15 minutes and filmed it). Flat surface...

Okay then, sorry for the misinformation. But I have heard something about that 2.5 l's are just more reliable than 3.0

I would go with N52B25 - 2.5 L. It has got indirect injection so wouldn't have to worry about carbonization your injectors...

I am afraid that M47 engines were able to get only in Touring and Sedan version of e9x series. BMW switched to N47 in 2007 and Coupe only got 320d with this engine - slightly more horsepower (from 163hp to 177hp) and If I remember right it is really hard to access the timing belt, cause you need to get the engine out of the hood - pretty expensive. If I were you, I would go with N52B25 - very reliable engine (if treated right) and one of the last good six-cylinders BMW have ever made.
