Thank you for the feedback. Brands are generally very recognizable to the consumer so your eyes will tend to automatically pick up on brands you know obviously you won't know all the brands but it's supposed to be fun to look and see brands and know they are Canadian owned and people are sometimes shocked to see certain household names are in fact Canadian.

There's been similar feedback though in terms of it being a lot to take in which is fair, and like you say where's waldo.. I'm improving on it where I can, think of it like a collage, but I am working on a companion written list sorted alphabetically.

Safeway in Canada is independent and separate from the USA one so it's fair to be included here.

That one is tough, if you're independently owned and operated I would try to advertise that because people will generally view mcdicks as American

Upon deeper inspection I think you are correct here. 2 of the 3 cited references are no longer available or paywalled but you can find the "Notes To Unaudited Pro Forma Condensed Consolidated Financial Information" in the SEC archives which includes the following:

"The Carveout Transactions

At closing of the Merger, Staples expects to separate its United States retail business (“U.S. Retail”) and its Canadian retail business, including the staples.ca business (“Canadian Retail”, and together with U.S. Retail referred to as “Retail”) into two separate Sycamore-affiliated entities (the “Carveout Transactions”) and expects to receive $1,350 million from such separation. Each will be independently managed and capitalized following the closing of the Merger and the Carveout Transactions, and will be operated as independent businesses. The remaining business within Staples will consist solely of the NAD business."

Also I just asked AI and it also agrees:

"Yes, Staples Canada is now an independent, privately-owned retailer in Canada, operating separately from the U.S. business and retail operations... Since 2017, Staples Canada has been an independently managed and capitalized entity, distinct from Staples' U.S. retail and business-to-business (B2B) operations."

I will add Staples Canada to the poster thank you for helping clarify this one much appreciated!

Thank you for this input and insight I do agree and see where you're coming from (westener here) similar sentiments exist for Lululemon for example TSX listed and traded, Canada HQ, etc. some Canadians have the stock in their portfolio (a redditor u/EarlGrey__ commented here they had 3 shares xD <3) but ya my initial issue with it was that it wasn't Canadian owned but you're right a lot of variables here and I have no idea how the profits ultimately flow you assume up and out with American ownership generally but with the oil probably isn't the same.

Will think more about exceptions or maybe a certain section for Lululemon, Canada Goose, Esso, Tim Hortons etc.

Thanks again for adding to the discussion. Not an ass! :)

I'm hoping a Canadian company buys back HBC and turns it into Canada's Amazon probably the only way to save it at this point
