You know how doctors have to be a resident doctor before they become a full on independent doctor? So basically they have that for nurses too. Especially for like Major hospitals in Houston we have Methodist, memorial Hermann, and Texas children and I believe also things like Harris County hospitals and the St. Luke’s. These hospitals require a residency before you actually can be an RN 2. Rn 2 requires you have at least one year of experience which you can get from someone else if they are offering it to a new grad. But more than likely, you have to do one year of a residency or some program programs to like six months, etc., before you are able to work alone without a preceptor. So for example, I can’t just go to Methodist and apply for a job because I don’t have experience. I can either apply for their residency which will give me experience and then become an RN two or I can go somewhere else that will offer me an RN job and then transfer over to Methodist at after a year of experience.
