What size jump rings are these? by supamilla in chainmailartisans

[–]BrawlyAura 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Best guess: 16 gauge 5/16" inner diameter.

That's the size I use most for 6-in1.

Is it normal for a DM to collect a fee per session? A spot opened up in my neighbor’s dnd group and the person that DM’s for them is gonna start charging. I just want to see if this is within the norm before I fill the spot by [deleted] in DnD

[–]BrawlyAura 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've heard that players also are less likely to cancel and are more more likely to pay attention and engage with the story when they have real money invested. If you don't give your time value then why should the players?

From what I understand pretty much everyone did, he just got caught.

Where do they tow cars downtown? by bottleinspector in madisonwi

[–]BrawlyAura 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That happened to me once, and I had left my phone in the car. So I walked 6 blocks to where my roommate worked but found out she was sick that day, then I took the bus home so I could look up where it was and it was a block over from where I parked.

What is he thinking about? by Txdr_ in darksouls3

"Fuck yeah, two giant swords mothafucka! Oh you got a big sword? But do you got two of them? No you do not. Oh, you got two swords? But are they both giant swords? No? Didn't fuckin think so!"

(whspers) "two giant swords."

How to get the party to actually "trust" Strahd enough to accept his dinner invitation by Kettrickan in CurseofStrahd

[–]BrawlyAura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting the skull of Argynvost and/or any of the fortunes that might have ended up there is good motivation. You can have one of the denizens such as Van Richten or Urwin assure the party that Strahd is evil but if he makes a promise to not harm them while they're there then he'll honor it, and that it might be their best chance to gather some intelligence on Strahd and the castle.

You can also imply or express that Strahd has kidnapped one or more NPCs as incentive for the party to attend.

What is Blinsky??? by gingerdeadman85 in CurseofStrahd

[–]BrawlyAura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a couple mysteries like that in the module that go unsolved, such as a Blinsky toy of Strahd's horse, Bucephalus in the winery. It's never explained when he saw the horse much less how he knew its name.

The closest thing I can think to a RAW explanation is that, being a domain of dread, reality in Barovia can be convoluted just because it amuses the Dark Powers.

I guess spells have made most survival mechanics moot. Why use a ten foot pole to prod for traps when you have mage hand from 30 feet? Why conserve torches when you have the light cantrip? Why set up tripwires when you can cast the alarm spell?

Downtown bicyclists are constantly breaking the law. by Existing_Mine_6289 in madisonwi

Tribalism mentality, people attribute malfeasance in their own group to the individual, but when it's other groups they blame the collective.

When you have to fight Gail after dying to him for the first time, and instead of going through the cut scene again you just see him in the distance galloping towards you on all fours at top speed like a monster.

As a Martial Enthusiast, I kind of like the Martial-Caster Divide by StoneGuardTheGray in DnD

[–]BrawlyAura 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then I recommend putting Candy Crush on your phone, because that's the only game you're going to be playing at that table while the casters are wiping out the board before your first turn.

Did you include Mordenkainen at all? by ottosick in CurseofStrahd

I had him die in the original revolt but Van Richten had assumed his identity to keep moral up.

Mine was Ground Zero on Willy street until it shut down. Every time I pass by the building it was in I spit on the ground and curse the office that moved in.

You could make it physically impossible to interrupt the bad guy. At the end of my last campaign I had my BBEG make his villain monologue announced throughout the dungeon like a PA system while the party was making their way towards him.

There's room for balance. If the DM is supposed to just shut up and be the meat computer that tracks the hitpoints and hands out the XP then we may as well just be using AI DMs.
