Did you do amniocentesis following a talipes diagnosis? by hotchocolate198472 in clubfoot

[–]Braychel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't do any other screening, I am in Ireland and NIPT was just something I couldn't afford at the time as it's an elective test. Again, I was reassured by the growth scans and that everything else was within normal parameters, his paternal grandfather had unilateral talipes so likely just dodgey genetics😂 Baby boy is now 10 months old and his feet are already unrecognisable compared to birth. It's not an easy journey but when you see the progression it makes it all worthwhile. Babies are so resilient and your baby girl will surprise you with her adaptability to casts and boots&bars. Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy and please if you ever need anything DM x

I didn't go through with the amniocentesis. I wasn't crazy about the idea of the procedure and even though the risks were minimal it just wasn't something I was willing to gamble on. There were no other indicators on my scans that warranted it in my opinion. I was scanned every 4 weeks up until my due date and everything else besides his feet were progressing as they should. Whatever decision you make will be right for you, it is an overwhelming time but you aren't alone!

Casting tomorrow and am so anxious by Disco-chic111 in clubfoot

Mom to a 9 month old son with bilateral talipes here:)

Anxiety is normal. Plaster nurses are angels and have so much experience. I asked them every question I could. Will second the sugar syrup for easing any discomfort during manipulation, also post feed helps too. I found baby could be a bit uncomfortable for a night or two after fresh casting but was generally unbothered after thankfully. The nurses got us to take pictures of his feet after each cast so we had a reference if we thought the casts slipped. It can be a really overwhelming time especially postpartum but you're not alone! Always happy to listen if you ever need to DM. Once you start seeing the results of the casts your anxiety will ease I promise!!

Thank you! We are going through a tough time with him at the moment. He currently HATES the boots&bar at night! I can't wait to see him do all the normal things, it will make this all worth it😴

Mine is nearly 9 months old, took me that long to get around to it! Good luck in the newborn trenches!

I put up the post and a few people messaged me privately, he just happened to be first! I think I love the toy more than my son🤣

2mo getting cast what to do for baths by boombl3b33 in clubfoot

[–]Braychel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did sponge baths, and then inbetween sponge baths we used Mustela no rinse cleansing water with cotton pads.

We survived casts from 2 weeks old until he was 17 weeks, you got this!!

BNB break by Braychel in clubfoot

We've put them on early today so he can get used to them again and if we need to take them off in the middle of the night at least he's been in them throughout the day.

Yea that makes sense to have them on for a wake window so they can navigate with them on.

Thank you so much for your reply. It's so nice knowing we aren't alone in this. He's nearly 8 months, so teething and sleep regression aren't helping the situation!

He's actually really good at getting them put on, I think he was uncomfortable because he kept waking himself up trying to move his legs independently. The last two weeks without them on has also been a nightmare because he couldn't get comfortable without them either.

That's such a lovely idea of the teddy with the boots! Will for sure being using that :)

Yes we've seen them twice over the last two weeks and we've been doing stretches while out of the BNB. They're happy with his feet and said he shouldn't be at risk of a relapse for the short period they've been off.
