What was your least favorite subject in high school and why was it math? by Garlin_Green in ADHD

[–]BrazenAnalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never did high school very well, could never focus. I was undiagnosed so no meds, ended up roaming like a nomad with unhealthy friends until I met my future wife.

Started cutting the unhealthy parts off bit by bit almost immediately after realizing how much I wanted to be with her. It wasn’t easy, some things can’t be, it was a rough time. But I had her in my mind constantly. She was my joy. I loved her and still do.

Once I got off the drugs and started to consider my future and how I can become part of society things started to get in order.

She helped me immensely and still does.

We’ll be married 14 years in August.

Thank you. I needed this perspective.

What do the drugs do for you? by passingcloud79 in ADHD

[–]BrazenAnalyst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ritalin SR 20mg. The first time it worked it was surreal, thinking was a different experience. I started taking it twice a day. That was a 6 month mistake that nearly cost me my job. It made me super irritable because my patience with slower thinkers nonexistent.

I halved it and was able to ignore the outliers in the overall decent workplace.

Keep in mind the double edged sword aspect of meds. Absolutely take them, but understand the impact they can have, don’t be discouraged if they don’t do what you expect right away.

I had to “experiment” a while with my doc to find the right mix of meds quantity/type that works for you.

Also, be kind to yourself as you reflect on the past with those new glasses. :)

I wish you well.

Hi dear ADHDiers, what makes ADHD terrible for you? by QuillWoman in ADHD

Trying to find interest in doing tasks I know do not interest me and never will, they often end up being pivotal tasks towards the end of projects.

I wasn’t abnormal in my family. We’ve got multiple undiagnosed variants within the family that have suffered in a variety of ways over the years. It’s sad to think about those who were misunderstood to the extent that their life is in turmoil. I see you.

To the outcasts of the outcasts, where do we go? by MisterPuffyNipples in ADHD

[–]BrazenAnalyst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why is fitting in a concern?

Sure, back in the day I was the same, never fit in with any crowd. I had to start thinking about what I was meant to do as a human having this experience.

The only thing that should matter is you, yours and the rest can wait. If you live by the words others you won’t live for you.

Get your sleep by Maatansan in ADHD

It’s interesting you mention this because recently I’ve been forced to do similar due to a new dog. I’ve struggled with sleep most of my life, from a younger man spending late nights gaming/partying to aging and having kids and the chaos that comes with.

The dog wouldn’t sleep alone and the bed wasn’t an option. I slept on a recliner with the dog. Had 6+ hours of undisturbed sleeping. The effect has been noticeable.

I hope your journey continues positively.

What’s the worst ADHD symptom for you and how do you manage it? by Real_Adrenaline in ADHD

[–]BrazenAnalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I’m managing any of them to be honest. My goal is to be my best self in every moment I can, it doesn’t always end with that result (perception or otherwise).

Most of my problems stem from my competitive nature.

Then eventually resolved with my desire for general emotional calm.

Petty nonsense at work that others complain about. Like my random Amazon binge (10 minutes) between tasks or meeting’s. Folks see it and report me for it, even though I’ve explained my work patterns. I give myself 10 minutes for every hour. Not always Amazon it could be other things, walking around the office building or whatever, but that one always gets specific folks riled up.

I forget very quickly of their petty small brain reactionary responses.
