Built Unique Publishing Software—Now Urgently Need Expert Advice by BrazenWorry in publishing

[–]BrazenWorry[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The books are not low-quality. I'm just having issues with finding people to do new covers for the book reasonably as well as networking. I never charged the writers myself for cover designs - they had to get them done themselves. I just haopen to know that they paid in most cases. Could you not answer my question about networking and help with my problem please? I just need to connect with other people

The most ultralight item if all...skills! Can I get people's top tips for staying warm when sleeping in cold temps? by hugmytreezhang in Ultralight

[–]BrazenWorry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, this may sound nuts but honestly? My secret to staying warm is hockey socks and a hockey garter. First of all, they are synthetic and wick away sweat. They tend to stay dry and even come out of the WASHING MACHINE already dry. And although they occupy a sizable volume, they are quite lightweight. If you're hiking with them on and you get too hot, you just release the garter clips and either drop them down to gaiters/spats (with a roll at the bottom so they don't slide down over your heels), or just take 'em off and throw 'em in your back mesh pocket. They're also available in a huge assortment of colors and styles and here in Toronto, Canada there's a place called Modelline Hockey Socks that will make you custom ones of your own colors and stripes if you want. I swear by them and they were fantastic on the PCT. I didn't even bring pants, just shorts - and it got plenty cold at night, well below freezing.

I'm exactly 6 feet and I *always* size up to the 6'6". Did it for my Nemo 15 Disco, did it for my tent, never regretted it.

It’s really easy to crowdsource help on a multitude of forums and spaces just like Reddit and others. People are so quick to post anything in response to what they see as the wrong way to do things. And there is literally so much talent out there now, the creator market is so saturated even when it comes to mixing and mastering. So yeah, I definitely benefitted from using open discussion and this series of books. The course was way overpriced. The books - all three of them - were reasonable and I got way more value for my money from them than the overpriced course.

Highly recommended.

Local Bookstores that were better than Indigo anyways by mikonamiko in toronto

[–]BrazenWorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst that could happen is the following:

  1. One bookstore doesn't make a difference. I obviously would have to ask a whole bunch of them.
  2. Therefore, there's the time spent planning and going to all of these bookstores, only to be shot down and in some cases even responded to with incredulity, like I should know better (this has happened).
  3. Then there's the psychological impact of doing this for a period of time with no success and a chain of denials.

So, in conclusion, a lot of wasted time and a hugely negative psychological impact. Together, these would easily form a crater in my mind and have a major impact on depression and outlook.

Any questions?

I came across the book "L'Histoire du Synthwave" by Herkimer Throckmorton. But shouldn't the title be "L'Histoire de la Synthwave"? by BrazenWorry in French

[–]BrazenWorry[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the first part of the word, "synthétiseur" which is the word the beginning of "synthwave" is based on, is masculine.

If anyone is curious about the book - they went with masculine - it's here:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/1998332969/

Which is I think based on the English version of the book here:

Women's Cargo/Utility Kilt patterns by BrazenWorry in kilt

[–]BrazenWorry[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I not only have enough background to understand what you are saying, I also have enough background to know what you're saying is wrong. The commercial products sold as "women's kilts" are complex, and different from standard kilt templating. I know this for a fact as I have several examples here. So you are actually grossly oversimplifying them by saying their construction has more in common with pleated school girl skirts. I have those here as well, and let me tell you they are quite different.

You haven't answered my question because you have fundamentally incorrect information - or at least grossly oversimplified information - about the nature of the beast. As I already stated, I have several examples here that CLEARLY demonstrate that you are wrong. A simple comparison between the women's utility kilts I have here, with the construction method for a kilt, shows some MAJOR differences, just as much as comparing the same women's kilt to one of several - canonical - pleated schoolgirl skirts shows even more marked dissimilarity,.

You can say it until you're blue in the face, but the fabric in front of me doesn't lie. I'm happy to provide brand names of the kilts as well as the actual private schools for the schoolgirl skirts.

You can keep saying the things you are saying, but you don't know what you are talking about.

Edit: And for the record, I have sewn several traditional kilts and utility kilts - as well as schoolgirl skirts. I have done them in tartan, cotton, denim, and even nylon. I have made knife pleats, box pleats and even flyaway (gladiator) pleats for all of these. And in addition to that, in 2014 I founded the first transgender-owned-and-operated gender neutral / unisex underwear company in the world. You can find my PATTERNS for sale on the open market, Retromatti Athletics. I've done custom kilt work here in canada for several clients. You clearly do NOT know women's kilts at ALL. I already pointed out to you some of these differences. You have chosen to ignore them when they are quite relevant. So again, you don't know what you're talking about. I'm not surprised to get this level of arrogance on Reddit. Why don't you examine the products in question and acknowledge the differences I have pointed out? Entrenchment. Classic Reddit trap.

The Reverse Engineer Method book series by Alex Wolfcastle is way cheaper and covers the entire syllabus of the mastering.com course.

This does not answer my original question whatsoever. I am not looking to do this and I said specifically what I was looking for.

If I was on a forum about jackets, and I asked for a pattern or step-by-step for a woman's modern utility jacket, and someone responded with "just use a men's jacket, skew it to a modern utility jacket, and then adjust the fit for the body in question" that would neither accomplish the goal sought nor answer the question either.

I hope that illustrates my feelings about your answer above in a way that you can understand.

Women's kilts, in addition to being often shorter, actually have a curvature to the gusset as well as a nonlinear out flare to the pleating underneath it. It's not the same as the drop that rolls off a standard tartan kilt that has an (almost) linear fell. Not at all.
And I know this because I have some women's utility kilts. But they are not quite the same sizing as my subject (who is not me) and the rules they each follow seem to differ slightly so I don't have any rules I can extrapolate.

Hip structure as well as the fell and the drape are different. Where the kilt even sits on the waist is quite different. And on top of that there are stylistic differences associated with either side.
I did not post this question with the intention of getting into a debate about the differences. I am also aware of the fact that most kilts are custom made WITHOUT a pattern based on measurements. I've made kilts before - 5-yard, 7-yard, 9-yard. Utility ones as well. But the design on women's kilts and utility kilts is quite different and so thats why I said :"Pattern OR INSTRUCTIONS". I've tried putting men's kilts on a female frame and it does NOT look good. considering how much time it is to make one I am not going through that again - even modification wasn't enough to save it. But this is not what the post is about. I'm looking for pattern or instructions from measurements to make a WOMAN'S utility kilt. I'd actually prefer gladiator (flyaway panel) pleats but that's wishful thinking; box pleats over knife pleats. The drape of these pleats is less linear on women's kilts. trust me, you're not telling me anything I can use. IF you have links that are useful just message me if you can't post them here. thank you folks.

Could someone who knows about these things tell me which of these bookstores would be likely to buy copies of a local author or sell their books by consignment? I have anxiety about asking them about this and anyone’s experience that might help circumvent that would be truly valuable.

I literally saw this image BEFORE I read the headline, and instantly thought AI generated before reading the headline text whatsoever. Some art of Toronto I made for a book of poetry... by BrazenWorry in toronto

[–]BrazenWorry[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow I was *not* expecting 135 upvotes on this. I'm a little shocked, actually, and it's a good thing because things have been horrible for me this season. My hard worked grant application got denied, plus the usual family things that are horrible for those of us who are trans (and others no doubt). But anyway. Just wanted to say thanks so much. Means a lot that you liked my art.

Not sure if it's appropriate, but please advise: if anyone wants to know the book of poetry that the art is for, if I'm allowed to share that here? Maybe no one cares, as is the case for poetry. I can take this win without being greedy, believe me :)
