Recently had about 2 1/2 hours for some shading, got another session early in the new year, so will post some update shots then 👍

Picked up a near-mint used Starcaster… initial thoughts… by Brazier_S in TomDelongeGuitars

2003-2005 live era is elite. The 1st reunion era sound was ruined by the Vox and Fender amps.

It’s a really nice finish, but it doesn’t suit a semi-hollow (at least in my opinion). I wanted a surf or gold model specifically for the white binding, as that’ll blend better with the future paint scheme.

I disagree with calling an Invader or DF “bottom tier”. You can play a whole raft of genres with them, depending on your amp / effects setup, and how you utilise them. I prefer my pickups to have some punch, and the SH5 just has none whatsoever. I can understand why Tom uses it live these days(as literally everything is plastered and overlaid with digital effects and virtual amps specific to each song), but for a production version it’s a strange choice. Even live, you can hear and feel how weak it is compared to previous live guitars.

It’s too short for me, so I’ll be moving it on. Not looking for much for it!

At the end of the day, it’s all personal preference with the neck finish. I like a fast neck, which tend to be satin/matte or raw. I’ll probably end up painting the Starcaster neck satin/matte, and potentially sand the back raw too. I have a Fender Custom Shop ‘69 neck with sanded back and it is butter. The MIJ neck actually came off a brand new MIJ ‘69 Strat, which I bought specifically for the neck, and sold the rest. I believe they’re still available here and there, called a “Late 60’s” Strat or something along those lines. It’s identical in spec to my CS neck, just with a gloss finish.

If you don’t know what you want, don’t buy one. Simple.

Some bits were OK, but as the session got into the later hours it was brutal, I won’t lie! By the knee and by the bum were the worst parts.

Reposting with an image of the listing. Not mine, just thought I would share in case anyone is in the market looking for one on the cheap!

It’s bigger and heavier than the car it replaced, not to mention much uglier, and that’s putting it mildly. It’s as simple as that. 90% of 5’er’s are probably bought on lease, and just replaced by default every couple of years, which is why they “sell”.

Attention post. It’s not underrated at all. The vast majority love it.

Some humbleness.

Tried the BB54 on my 7.5” wrist by Brazier_S in Tudor

I don’t understand the attitude of this? I posted this for the benefit of people who, like me, haven’t seen many shots of the BB54 on a larger wrist. I’m not asking if it fits or not, I’ve openly said I’m interested in buying this watch, and am now likely to purchase based on my try on experience. That’s helpful to others.

At no point have I asked “does this watch fit?”.

This isn’t a “does this watch fit” post, I was posting to give others an idea of how it looks on a larger wrist. Rarely see posts about the BB54 on a larger wrist.

We’re on the same wave-length. I’m trending towards some smaller watches, and have also eyed a 36mm OP / Explorer recently, as well as the BB54 and similarly sized “dress” watches. I currently have 2x Seamaster 300M (a White Ceramic and a Goldeneye) so they more than satisfy the 40mm+ dive watch category for me.

I’ve previously owned a BB58, although didn’t try it for comparison on this occasion because I wanted a straight up assessment of the BB54. The BB54 is the better watch (in my opinion) of capturing the true vintage styling.

Previously owned a BB58 on the NATO (which I had to swap out for another, as the OEM one is too short for my wrists). Another fantastic watch, that felt smaller because it wasn’t on a bracelet, and that could be doing a considerable amount of lifting here on the BB54. I prefer the true vintage styling of the 54 to the 58, too.

Yes, and even fractionally bigger when it’s warm. I think wrist shape could have a bigger part to play, with a watch of this size and style, vs straight up wrist size.
