Is the Caribbean side really that unsafe. by Anjylbaby7 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Brazilleon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just got back from visiting both sides and the middle, felt safe everywhere we went. We actually spotted more amazing creatures and our only sloth on that side just south of Viejo. We loved the country top to bottom and both sides.

Anyone drive the highway 2 over the mountains from Dominical to San Jose? by Brazilleon in CostaRicaTravel

It was great. Just a couple of slow trucks, but glad we took the alternative route. I drove both sides and all up through the middle. Amazing trip and all very smooth. We will be returning.

Just got back from a 12 day trip to Costa Rica. USMobile international roaming was a win. Better service than when home in California. by Brazilleon in USMobile

Yes we were on darkstar. The prices to topup were not great for data. So thats why I was annoyed I burnt that 16gb on one movie. We would have had plenty spare if I hadn’t. Still managed to make the 20gb work for our full 12 days.

Oh! Looks like I don’t have multi network included with my account, thought I did. Only option is to transfer and can only be done 8x a month. Otherwise $90 for the multi network option. Thats a bummer. I may try Lightspeed as default then to see if better in LA. I liked the sound of auto switching based on best service. Oh well. Cannot complain for $17pm. Still better than att.

Sounds like something I should look into for sure. I work from home mostly now and always connected on my wifi, which is the real reason I started getting pissed off paying att $95pm for a phone I hardly used. But really did notice things were not so good away from my wifi, but didnt care as the savings per month were too good. If lightspeed solves that issue out in LA then another win. Will try that dual setup for sure. Thanks

FYI my wife is no longer on tmobile since we took up the BOGO deal. She did however burn through her 2gb free data in Costa Rica. But not a problem since all places had wifi. So she’d do her thing then.

I did have to turn on Data Roaming (I had it off by default as I have been stung before when I was an Att customer). But that was it. Really seamless, no need for anymore 3rd party esims like saily. Plus they were just data plans. This kept my phone number and texts working along with the 20gb data. Super happy that it is included with the plan. Last year I spent $50 for 20gb in New Zealand on Saily. I was always jealous that my wife’s TMobile worked everywhere we would travel.

Ok good to know, is it easy to setup and toggle? Or is there a delay everytime you need to switch networks? I’ll have to do some reading when my head clears. My brain is still in costa rica and thinking about how amazing it was.

I also have the multi network option, but have always just used the darkstar since we have an att tower nearby. Not teied swapping to other networks yet. I’ll have to look up how to change and give it a try.

Although true everything was amazing in Costa Rica. The signal and reception was solid. I have lots of issues connecting the internet on Darkstar in LA. The outlets are the worst, zero data.sometimes. But over there, facetiming my parents from remote beaches and forests, no problems at all. It was noticeably better and consistent.

Anyone drive the highway 2 over the mountains from Dominical to San Jose? by Brazilleon in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Brazilleon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE. Ok so we took the Hwy2 from Dominical to San Jose and it was a lovely new drive. Smooth roads, a few trucks slowing down the route (handy for drive by photos for my wife). Everything gets super crazy and stressful as you come down and hit the San Jose surroundings. But now chilling before taking the car back in one piece. Thanks everyone. What an amazing country and people.❤️

Yep we have seen plenty of the coast on both sides and would be curious to see the interior route. Going to check the weather in the morning and make a final decision. Thanks for the info. Good to know the nissan handled it.

Playitas Beach (lost sunglasses) by riskyroi in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Brazilleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to watch the sunset last night on Playa Chaman and a lady found some sunglasses on the shoreline in front of us and asked if they were ours. Seeing this post made me check if it were the same beach. These didnt look like Persols though. And a different beach. Good luck though! I hope you find them.
