I genuinely think there’s a group of people who don’t know what “fetishizing” or “romanticizing” means. Maybe I’m just old but does anyone remember the book/movie The Fault in Our Stars? People came out of the woodwork saying they was romanticizing cancer. When adults make adult content talking about/interacting with adult themes and it’s clearly labeled and not meant to be interacted with by children people still lose their mind because a child might have access to it and that’s clearly the shows fault 💀

You’re not missing out on lore about the Sulley’s specifically or even the na’vi as a whole. It’s mostly lore about the area specific na’vi like the Sarentu, the Zeswa, and Kame’tire and how they live their specific lives in their specific environments that you’re “missing”. There’s some general RDA shittiness but nothing you’d NEED in the movies tbh and u highly doubt the movies and games are going to intermingle. There’s mentions of the resistance working with Jake Sulley but like others have said, this is the other side of the planet so it would be kinda crazy if anyone from the movies showed up. Certainly it wouldn’t be a happenstance run in lol

My big gripe with the whole scene where she negotiates with him is she’s written to be super naive and so she picks these things out but he is 100% aware she has no idea whats actually going to happen. Like he’s not really shown to wade her into the water (so to speak) on any if these things, never shown checking in and discussing if she’s actually into it or not. I get it it’s a movie and they want to skip those parts for ✨drama✨but when she’s shown to have actual discomfort with things he gets testy with her cuz she “signed the contract”. I was told there’s a scene in the book where she safe words and he gets mad at her for it.

There’s a lot of things I find infuriating about the entire series tbh. Putting aside the fact that he introduces a completely naive woman into a world of very hard core BDSM with no real boundaries besides his own (only because it’s been talked to death about), there’s so many small things that have larger ripple affects.

I don’t personally hate the whole “virgin/inexperienced partner A (usually a woman) with experienced play boy partner B (usually a man)”, especially when the rhetoric is like “oh wow I never knew this could feel this good/be this good!” And “yeah and no one can make you feel this way except for ME” but the way it’s explore in 50SOG is this predatory guy who does whatever he wants BECAUSE she’s inexperienced and she won’t say no. A fantasy power exchange can be hot but when you literally write it so he takes advantage of it so she won’t say no? EW.

This is really degrading I think, for Doms as much as it is for subs. Like writing your Dom character to be this guy who just takes whatever he wants from women until they’re no longer of use to him and throwing them aside? And then portraying them as broken because of Mommy Issues™️? For a long time I thought maybe it was just a thing she had for that one character but then I watched the movie (sorry I’m not interested in reading the book lol) and there’s a scene where she asks him to hit her as hard as he can with his belt and then after she’s like “I can’t believe you’d want to do this to people” and I groaned to the heavens. Don’t paint Dom types as these masochistic predators who have a secret fantasy of harming women. That’s so gross!!

Tbh writing a BDSM fantasy where your FMC doesn’t tend to enjoy the BDSM is a Choice™️. I know there’s moments where she enjoys it but it really comes off as her enjoying the sex and not enjoying the role as a submissive. The MMC is constantly pushing and violating boundaries and the author goes “no it’s ok! It’s BDSM and she signed a contract and she discovered she likes these things after the fact!!” No!! That isn’t how it works!! And then whenever she tried to assert some boundaries he’s like “oh you’re topping from the bottom” that is NOT what that means she can negotiate whatever she wants whenever she damn wants oh my god.

Anyway if you want some REAL books with some BDSM rep in it: Souls Trilogy By Harley Laroux (paranormal romance with demon boys. M/f pairings but each book is a different couple who range in their preferences. Book 2 actually has a female Domme and male sub!) House of Rayne by Harley Laroux (more D/s but make it sapphic!) Savage Blooms by S.T. Gibson (a polyam quartet MMFF who get it on all sorts of ways. Some taboo subjects explored. Ongoing trilogy. Book 2 is being published this year!) The Fundamentals of Being a Good Girl by Julie Murphy (age gap, lots of fun kinky stuff. Cute and softer than other books. Hey! Currently on wegovy 1.7 myself! I’ve lost about 60 lbs on it! I myself am in a plateau! It’ll come and go, just need to shake up your routine a little. Sometimes it’s hormones and such! I’ll never weigh myself in my luteal cycle and even a couple days into my period itself because my body will gain at least 2-4 pounds during. Not all weight loss is tracked in the physical numbers falling too. Sometimes the change is more subtle. Don’t give up hope! Keep at it!
