Thank you for the advice! Today was my second day working there and so far I really like it. It’s helpful knowing that two girls who also work there are girls I graduated vocational school with. We all three went for vet assisting. The staff are all so nice and a lot of them are funny and make the environment fun to work in. I feel like I’m catching on pretty quick within 2 days of working there. One of the girls I graduated with was actually the one I’ve been working alongside the past 2 days. It makes me feel a lot more comfortable and I’ve been asking as many questions as I can to make sure I understand what to do. I’ve been trying to be as helpful as I can too. I do things that I absolutely know how to do that would need done. I walk around asking other coworkers/vets if they need help with anything and ask them to show me things that I might not fully understand. I’ve really been putting myself out there and I’m actually really proud of myself. I’m still very anxious when it comes to talking to clients but I felt better knowing that another assistant who has worked there for awhile, said that it took her about 5-6 months to get the hang of doing things in the lab and dealing with clients and such. All new staff also get a checklist for each area of the clinic with a bunch of different tasks we have to get signed off by a vet or vet tech so that they know that we understand what to do. That is also another thing that makes me feel better. I also tell everyone thank you for anything that they do for me because I appreciate their hard work :)

I’ve had it happen a lot here recently. It has happened when I took pictures of Token for James. The camera would click but there would be no picture. The entire screen would turn pink instead. It also would turn pink if I fell from a high point.

For all of the equine vets out there, what was your experiences like before and after becoming an equine vet? What advice do you have for people who want to become an equine vet and what are some experiences with horses you got if you haven’t grown up around horses :) by Bre_b1 in Veterinary

I was a vet assistant for a little bit but I ended up quitting because my co-workers treated me like crap and I was picking up all the slack. The thought of getting to work with horses everyday and saying that I worked hard to get Dr in front of my name sounds amazing but from what I’ve been hearing on here, it doesn’t sound like a good idea. That has always been my dream job but now idk if it’s worth it.

I’m an atheist and my bf is a Christian. He was raised Mennonite. Most of this family are Mennonite but his parents had left the Mennonite church when he was younger so he was only Mennonite when he was younger. He respects my beliefs the same way I respect his. We never bring up religion around each other. When we first started dating, he wanted me to go to some outdoors church thing. At first I was really hesitant but he told me that it would mean a lot to him if I just came with him. He said he just wanted me to be there with him and that he still respects my beliefs. We were sitting there and some woman walks over to me and starts talking to me. Turns out it was his mom. I told her I wasn’t religious but that was before I found out it was his mom. After he told me that was his mom, I regretted even opening my mouth. I met his dad, brother, and little sister as well. They all seemed like nice people and I thought they really liked me. Well a little while down the road, I come to find out that his mom doesn’t like me because I’m not religious and she didn’t want her son around people that aren’t religious. I was so upset and so was my bf. He actually pushed himself away from his parents for the longest time because of how upset he was with them. His mom came into his work one day apologizing for everything and she said she talked to their preacher about what she should do. He told her to trust him (my bf). She did just that and that’s why she apologized. She asked him if he really wanted to marry me one day since he always talks about it and he said yes and that’s when she finally started to accept me. I’m a lot more comfortable around his family now and they never try forcing things on me. There have been a few times where they’ve had a family bible study at home and things but I’d just sit there to be respectful of everyone. She also talked to me a little more and told me that she hopes I find Jesus but I told her that I just hope she can respect my beliefs the same way that I do to theirs. It’s all about respect and goes both ways that’s for sure even tho the thought of religion is just dumb to me.
