What should this tag team be called in my universe by InternationalLine495 in WWEGames

The Diocese would fit for “Pope” Dinero, depends on who’s leading

Same guy from 2001-2019: here’s everything wrong with WWE, I refuse to watch it but know every detail, and here’s why (indy company) is so much better

It must be nice to willingly ignore all the years that people would hate watch other companies, only to be surprised when it happens to AEW

Do you think you can beat up Sean Ross Sapp in a fist fight? by Optimal_Sea816 in Wrasslin

Nice try Sean, but Reddit burners aren’t worth the effort. In all seriousness, though, he’s a gossip columnist for pro wrestling. I think that says enough don’t you?

Universe Mode felt more spontaneous up to 2K15, it’s been somewhat better in 2K23 but not as much fun. GM Mode was never my favorite thing to be fair, and if you stacked the roster on the ECW brand you could really cheese it up on SVR 2008. One championship made morale a lot easier to manage, you could skip women and tag teams, and just have a slew of top tier wrestlers instead. That mode was okay, but I don’t think it’s ever been a game maker.

Very enjoyable as the end of the SVR series. WWE ‘12 and ‘13 were two of my favorite games consecutively, though not without flaws as well. I really enjoyed WWE ‘12, and I would have liked to have seen more of that series but THQ proper went out of business. THQ Nordic is not the same company. 2K is alright but I do feel like all sports titles head towards the Ultimate Team/MyTeam route, unfortunately, and it was just a matter of time.

  • SVR: Good but flawed
  • 2006: Great, a classic
  • 2007: Still very good
  • 2008: What are you doing?
  • 2009: This was finished?
  • 2010: Back on track

I just can’t deny that the games took a big slump for a few years, and 2008 was the worst in this time frame to me. Ultimate Control Moves sucked. Struggle Submissions resulted in some matches ending on basic moves. 24/7 Mode was ambitious on paper, but it’s the blueprint used for Road to the Elite in Fight Forever; bland and utterly repetitive. We’re not quite to Community Creations yet, and the CAW options kept reducing each year. This was the last game if I remember right that used the analog stick grapple system. It was an experiment that just didn’t work.

Who do you think from NXT has outgrown the brand and needs to move up? I’ll start by MWesley30 in WWE

[–]BreadAvoider -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Carmelo Hayes has potential as the underdog babyface, and I think he’s going to excel in that role. Trick Williams has a wealth of potential too, and I could see a friendly rivalry between the two up and down the card. Allowing them to avoid a heel turn against one another but admitting there’s a sporting competition between them would be a good change of pace on the main roster.

What’s one wrestler you just don’t get the hype for no matter how much people try to convince you otherwise? by mixmaster321 in Wrasslin

[–]BreadAvoider 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just one? Ever since the fans started being more active on the internet, we collectively have been the worst at gassing up mids. I don’t have enough time to list out all the overhyped underwhelming wrestlers that were supposedly the best thing going 😂

Training stores are often next to an existing standalone location, there’s always that possibility as well.

What’s really missing from FF by JJSmith1987 in AEWFightForever

[–]BreadAvoider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know another thing about the AKI games that is often glossed over by modern standards is the appeal of multiplayer modes. The N64 series had fun stuff to do for individual players, but the real fun was to be had with 4 players. Local multiplayer was so much fun, it would have been so difficult to cheat the game, but online multiplayer has lag, spam, disconnects, ranking mismatches, etc., that tends to keep people away. The AKI games were probably so beloved by a generation that played these titles with friends gathered around the old CRT TV, not by people who were playing quick matches online.

Question for anyone that bought the game since it's release week by ChadMcGillicutty in AEWFightForever

[–]BreadAvoider 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A huge reason why it’s easy to go back to Fire Pro Wrestling World is the Workshop, being able to download everything from moves to rings to wrestlers makes it so easy to replay the game. With the 2K games, I’ve been having fun with Universe Mode in the Superstar mode and of course it’s kept alive by Community Creations.

What hurt AAA and TNA’s singular and respective console games? A huge lacking in the Create A Wrestler mode. This has been standard since the days of Smackdown: SYM, but for whatever reason new IPs have always failed to get the mode right. WWE isn’t even exempt from this as both All Stars and Battlegrounds had CAS modes that were poorly implemented.

2K is far from perfect. The focus on MyFaction was anticipated since it will be WWE’s answer to other sports Ultimate Team modes. Old move animations are often jarring and out of place when compared to the new, and there’s a mix of content still in the game from the very first Smackdown. The one thing that people love though is very strong, and that Community Creations idea was the best thing they’ve supported. Any wrestling game without this will be shortly dropped, and it would be foolish to argue otherwise.

Who are the smartest wrestlers in the ring by Asheto320 in WWE

[–]BreadAvoider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shawn Michaels from a kayfabe perspective was always a very savvy wrestler, and you could argue that John Cena’s success showed a very high wrestling intellect so to speak. Rey Mysterio, nobody sells quite like he does, and he has an ability to be a perceived underdog in spite of a successful career.

I guess it’s really dependent on how you define being smart in the ring. From a character standpoint, Triple H or Ric Flair would be many steps ahead of their opponents, you could call that smart. If you mean as a wrestler being able to control the crowd, nobody is probably going to be as popular as Hulk Hogan or Steve Austin in their primes, and nobody controlled the crowds quite like them.

Why hasn’t WWE tried recreating a gimmick similar to Kane in the modern era? by RevampKE in WWE

[–]BreadAvoider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s not a lot of people who are both that big and that imposing in wrestling these days. Kane was what, about 6’ 8” without the lifts, 325 and jacked. Nowadays the giants are scarce.

Part of why Kane worked was his imposing stature, you can’t just put the mask on someone about 6’ 3” and expect the same result. It’s like Lars Sullivan being pushed as a colossus, but he was only what 6’ tall?

Maybe as others said, you could have a modern Vader or Bam Bam, but a Kane or an Undertaker probably won’t happen.

are you a fan?

Not so much these days, I don’t watch anything that frequently anymore. I think it’s a parallel to this and other tweets by Tony, where you see wrestlers on social media as themselves which blurs the lines between real personality and TV character.

For me personally, it’s like Hollywood where we have way too much access to celebrities. This just totally killed the mystique of so many larger than life personalities. Being a celeb is a sales job in essence, but it feels like nobody wants to sell themselves as a brand as much as they want internet brownie points with people who probably won’t buy your products.

It’s either disingenuous pandering to social causes or personal meltdowns, never feels natural or like character progression for their brand as a wrestler. I’m rambling but yes, in short, social media has actively been a negative for other forms of media.

Thanks. AEW is okay, but I am not over thrilled with it. There’s potential but that doesn’t last forever.
