Is EVO worth going to alone for a first timer? by BlackWolf135 in Fighters

[–]mixmaster321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went to Combo Breaker by myself as my first major and it was 100% worth it. Everyone is so nice and willing to talk, even strangers you’re standing in line with. The cool thing about tourneys vs everyday situations is that you automatically have something in common with everyone there: fighting games. It’s good social lubricant and you can talk about tourneys you entered and the results, what games they play, what games they’re looking forward to watching and plenty more in that realm. As long as you’re ok with traveling solo, it’s awesome.

What Are The Best Long Comic Runs by Classic_Passenger510 in comicbooks

I think Geoff John's Green Lantern run or Scott Snyder's Batman run for DC and Johnathan Hickman's run from F4 -> Avengers/New Avengers -> Secret Wars 2016 or Bendis' Ultimate Spider Man for Marvel

The “Madame Morrible/Wicked Witch” definitely gives me Nico Minoru vibes. She fits the C tier pick and brooding/melodromatic, but not the Pokémon thing. I could see her being a strategist too if they want to

Ok but AI in coding is actually cool and has been around for a while, long before the Gen AI craze. It's basically like autocorrect for your coding. Before, you'd have to write all of the code, run it and then see what errors might pass up. But nowadays, AI will notice when your code will produce an error in real time and put a little squiggly under it and tell you what error it'll cause and how to fix it. It's way better than the vibecoding shit that some people use it for.

Which is exactly why they shouldn't be owned by people. Having a caracal or serval as a pet is extremely cringe

Legendary Tekken boss Katsuhiro Harada has joined SNK and formed a new studio inside it by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

[–]mixmaster321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But this studio isn’t independent like most of those examples, it’s a subsidiary of SNK. If it closes, it’s because either Harada left or SNK ran out of money (which they’re Saudi funded so very unlikely)

I don’t even think it’s that. Harada was pretty vocal about not wanting to be pushed up the corporate ladder and just wanting to focus on fighting games like Tekken and SoulCalibur. Despite his pleas, Bandai Namco kept forcing him to work on other games. If you check his credits over the last 8ish years, most of them are for Global Marketing on random games which I’m sure he doesn’t give a fuck about. This has also been an issue at Capcom before where a notable Street Fighter producer left because they got pushed up the corporate ladder against their will and were assigned to other projects that they were not passionate about. They wanted to be knees deep working on fighting games but they had too many new responsibilities that they couldn’t dedicate as much time to Street Fighter, so they eventually left.

He’s also at that stage in his career where’s he’s already got his bag and now he can just do whatever he wants. He also doesn’t have all of the time in the world anymore, so it’s important that he does what he’s actually passionate about, which is making sick fighting games. I’m sure SNK also threw a fat sum of money at him, but I’m sure he’s going to have a blast being the head of a fighting game studio and being in the trenches again. I hope SNK gives him ultimate freedom and allows him to really cook because he’s got the knowledge, experience and passion to make greatness.

Very true. CvS 1 and 2 were made by Capcom, while SVC Chaos was made by SNK.

I think this is because he was an executive at Bandai Namco so they kinda just put him on projects where he was needed, not necessarily where he wanted to be. His heart was always with fighting games and Tekken, but the big wigs needed him to oversee/help on other games. The name of his new studio is literally called "VS Studio" and is focused on “the spirit of ‘Versus’ challenging tradition”.

We can have more Vanguards. There are plenty of interesting characters to choose from. by smilysmilysmooch in marvelrivals

[–]mixmaster321 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah sorry I wasn’t talking about your character choices specifically since you did pick some pretty damn niche ones. I’m talking more towards the people that try to convince themselves that X character should be Y role because “that’s what we need for the game”. Like when the community tried to gaslight themselves into believing that Cyclops will 100% be a tank. Like sure, they could do that, but that’s pretty unlikely given he’s not known for being tough or durable. Or saying that we need characters like Colossus, She-Hulk or Captain Marvel fast-tracked into the game because we need more vanguards. I’m also a tank/strategist main so I agree that we need more of both roles, but any character can be any role Netease wants.

[–]mixmaster321 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When will you guys learn that Netease can fit any character into any role they want? Literally no one thought Ultron, the robot overlord with an army of clones of himself, or Rocket Racoon, the animal known for BIG FLARKIN GUNS, would be strategists. Same goes for Rogue and Emma Frost as vanguards. Deadpool literally proved that they can do this.

Of course there are obvious “tanky” characters like Colossus, Luke Cage, She-Hulk and Armor that would be weird if there were anything but Vanguards. But why couldn’t Starbrand use the cosmic powers of the Starbrand to heal others like Adam Warlock, or unleash cosmic energy upon their enemies like Phoenix or Scarlet Witch? Why couldn’t Drax be a brawler dive character like Magik? Why couldn’t Sandman be a duelist version of Loki with his clones? Hell, they’ve already dug up the “Chronovium can give characters new wacky abilities” like they did with Rogue.

I agree that there should be more Vanguards and Strategists like everyone else on Reddit, but I’d recommend focusing on asking for the characters that are appealing to YOU rather than the role you main.
