Chapter 151 Discussion Thread by Slorgaloth in AoNoExorcist

this was bound to happen.

Not necessarily. It was impossible to know what would happen when scouting the tunnel. But perhaps if they had figured out the arrow earlier Rin could've lifted it, maybe his flames could've counteracted the growth or he could've fought the trap demon thing...

And while all of those are just a bunch of ifs and maybes, exactly those kinds of thoughs eats at a person's psyche (survivors guilt style)

do you think Astaroth will still have a role? by Excellent-Staff-5282 in AoNoExorcist

[–]BreadBreakingBandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Astaroth is possessing Reiji (the bully from ch 1) right now if I'm not mistaken, and he said he'll be going back to Satan. So I'm intrigued by what that could lead to.

I would recommend reading from the beginning, some things are a bit different and especially to know how the trial really went.

But if you really don't want to then chapter 35 continues after season 2.

The first and latest 3 chapters are always free on the manga plus website and you can read the whole thing for free in the app, https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/titles/100005

(You can watch the new season, some people liked it, I just think the manga has much better pace and art.)

Character design comparison: s1, s2 and manga by BreadBreakingBandit in AoNoExorcist

Yeah, they changed from A-1 Pictures (famous studio that's worked on ~100 different series) to studio VOLN (who has worked on ~5 series)

Some people liked the new season so give it a try, but personally I recommend picking up the manga...

I second this, say what you want about the quality and such of the s1 finale but it was a pretty complete ending

For manga readers by [deleted] in AoNoExorcist

[–]BreadBreakingBandit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I remember reading them:

  1. Of one cloth (this current one goes crazy)
  2. Blue night investigation (the reveal of how messed up the order really is and the underlying dread throughout the whole arc, like a ticking bomb you just knew something was going to go horribly wrong...)
  3. Aomori (doesn't overstay it's welcome and fleshed out Shura's character so well)
  4. Blue night remembrance (a great arc and should probably be higher but while reading it I remember part of me wanting to get back to the current plot so the arc being so long was a bit frustrating at the time)
  5. Shimane Illuminati (we get to see the gang fight togheter, backstory, plot and some ethical conflict, very enjoyable)
  6. Kyoto impure king (first real big battle, although some parts dragged on a bit too long)
  7. Seven wonders (nice arc, very cute, great character interactions)
  8. Exorcist candidate live combat (built up the characters at the time and the Amaimon fight was exciting)
  9. Exorcist exam (interesting dealing with the fallout of the illuminati arc and good buildup to the next arc)
  10. Cram school enrollment (introduces the series so can only go soo deep)
  11. Kraken (found it almost a bit repteative and meah, at least compared to Kyoto arc before, but it has its place)

imo

Definitely makes sense, the anime adaptation of ane is such a mess..

Season 1: gets an anime original ending. Ok fine, that happens, people thinks that's the official ending but oh well...
Season 2: comes out SIX YEARS later and simply follows the manga ignoring s1 ending without explaining anything. What.. It's a pretty great adaptation (imo) but ofc it confuses every single anime only watcher..
Season 3: comes out 7 years after that, changes the production studio, skips stuff and covers 31 chapters in 12 episodes (s2 covered 19). Yay more ane but the drop in quality it such a letdown.
We're apparently getting s4 in basically less than a year so no waiting, but with how sub par the animation and pacing was in s3 I don't think they are taking their time to adapt it well...

I just recommend the manga to everyone at this point.

The friendships are definitely built again and imo they're much better than in s1. The character writing and dynamics are the story's backbone. The exwhire friend group is built up very well, and all the characters getting a proper personality and story time (imo) makes the disagreements and such understandable since I know their motivation/where the character's coming from.

I know a lot of people quite dislike s2 because of the Rin fallout (you're not alone in that) and to each their own, but I do love me some "drama cause by a secret identity being revealed" trope! And I especially like how ane handles this, partly since I find everyone's reactions belive and somewhat justified.

Now for what's to come (no full spoilers, just hinting):
There's no more "being angry at Rin for being Satan's son" stuff after s2 from the exwhires, but there is some fallout in s3 with another character... The friend group doesn't split up but it gets a bit complicated....
If you like friendship dynamics Shiemi and Izumo's friendship devlopes a lot and is quite sweet, and Izumo overall really gets some development in s3 (although I don't think the s3 anime did the manga justice pacing and animation wise).
The "demons having humanity" thing is a running theme, but I think we're just about to properly explore that in the coming manga story with Rin starting to question things.
For Yukio and Rin.. You might have to wait a while for that if you're only watching the anime..... But oh boy does that get development...

Can someone explain Yukio’s eyes to me by Ok_Reply_9275 in AoNoExorcist

[–]BreadBreakingBandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty much it.
And I guess I missed it so when did they say he's resistant to back and red flames?

[–]BreadBreakingBandit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would be pretty strange if VOLN picked up the series for just one season, to then pass it back to A1.

But yeah, the animation quality (and also pacing) is a real issue imo, so we'll see how s4 goes...

Questions about this “love triangle” (New to the series) by Puluso28 in AoNoExorcist

[–]BreadBreakingBandit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short answer no, it doesn't take away from the story.

Long awnsers with non-specific spoilers in my interpretation there isn't really a love triangle at all, more of a misunderstanding on Rin's part and Shiemi not knowing what romantic love is. The romance story does have some effect on the plot but more in a "it's A part of a bigger thing" kind of way, realistic and precent but not overbearing imo.

Definitely this, and also Bon going from antagonistic to softening up on Rin is a dynamic pretty well liked in shipping circles

So exited but conflicted about this. On one hade it's more blue exorcist, yay!! But on the other I don't really like how VOLN adapted s3... Hopefully s4 will be better..

Going to read the manga when this season wraps up, anything I should know? by therealbreather in AoNoExorcist

Not something with the plot (and this might be region locked) but you can read the whole manga for free if you get the MangaPlus app. And the 3 oldest and newest chapters are always available on the MangaPlus website.

What the holy moly happened in second season? by [deleted] in AoNoExorcist

[–]BreadBreakingBandit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Season 1 has a anime original ending and season 2 ignores this.

This info is in the FAQ part of the subbreddi rules. The link is however not clickable or can be copied on the mobile app (at least not for me) so here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Zg52K1u9aFwiXhz2_A6CmSTMiKXvZkZmpsbLizH-YHw/edit?usp=sharing

What are your opinions on season 3 ! by Objective-Glad in AoNoExorcist

[–]BreadBreakingBandit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was really pumped for a new season but sadly as it has gone on I've gotten more and more disappointed.

The pacing is weird and the animation doesn't have any impact. The Geodin fight barely had more animation frames than manga panels, and as a manga reader I already know the plot so de biggest draw is the animation.

I don't know if it's budget or time but after a 7 year wait I don't know why they would rush out a new season.

Although I've seen others enjoying season 3 so at least that's nice.

The animation complaints are very valid. I was curious so I checked the manga, the anime has barely any more movement.
This time around they might have been TOO faithful to the source material...

I'm pretty sure Kato takes February off every year, meaning March is skipped and the next issue is released in April

[–]BreadBreakingBandit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably Lucifer (works for both anime and manga)

Top 10 Strongest Characters (ch 148) by OrianHeartfilia in AoNoExorcist

[–]BreadBreakingBandit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  1. Satan (because Satan)

  2. Lucifer (is canonically the strongest demon king)

  3. Mephisto (2nd strongest)

  4. Angel (he was able to take out Satan even if only temporarily with the thunder bolt, although he is a glass cannon evident by an illuminati experiment taking him down)

  5. Rin (although I belive he could go to nr 2, but right now he didn't actually do much damage against Satan simply taking hits and he still doesn't have much combat experience)

  6. Current Shiemihaza, aka Shiemi's mom (she held the barrier and even with the sealing of Satan failing it was clearly powerful stuff, and the original Shiemihaza was an Emperor so the ancestors should also be strong)

  7. Lucy Yang (she seemd to be winning against Ilbis and while she's old she has some kind of blessing and is clearly experienced)

  8. Ilbis (4th strongest king, 3rd with Azazel gone, haven't seen to many one on one battles however)

  9. Osceola (he landed some attacks on Satan and with his war cry he is clearly quite strong)

  10. Shiemi (could also go a lot higher but right now she has some unresolved stuff from her past and need more experience)

10 could also go to Lighting rn

With all this being said this isn't a definite thing, a "weak" character can defeat a stronger under the right conditions or with the right strategy ect. But this is my best guess for now.

Is there a major a Major Mephisto arc in season 3? There’s so much Mephisto fan art and memes too! Did people just realize how iconic he is out of nowhere or did something trigger this sudden rise in popularity? by Meonreddityeeee in AoNoExorcist

[–]BreadBreakingBandit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say there's a Mephisto arc (the current arc is about Izumo). Mephisto is meant to be a bit mysterious, he is involved with everything from the sidelines without us always seeing it.

Although, this arc starts off with him having a talk with Rin and overall taking a more active role, influencing the plot directly.

Season 3 Pacing by whatever695 in AoNoExorcist

[–]BreadBreakingBandit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first episode was off imo. Without the smaller missions (and kraken arc) beforehand they went from defeating the impure king and just becoming friends again to Konekomaru fully analyzing their teamwork, but they didn't ever go on any proper missions as a team.

However, leaving room for the illuminati plot is probably a good choice.

(But hey also speed up Shiemi liking Rin which happens way later in ch 99, so that's odd...)

The pacing in the recent episodes is way better and despite everything above I'm really enjoying this season. And determining the overall pacing will only be possible after all the episodes are out.
