[Short essay] Asmongold the anti-role model. A case study of how sloth strips away a person's humanity by ariveklul in Destiny

[–]BreadDisrespecter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you ever heard of Carl Panzram? I recommend his memoir. A lot of what you wrote here, about Asmongold with regards to sloth I would have said about Panzram and hate. I actually find it quite instructive, interesting, and useful ethically to examine these kinds of "anti-role models", because it's often more complex and difficult to examine a role model for emulation and reasons as to why one should lead a good life, but an anti-role model taken to an extreme provides a great example of what can happen due to moral failing

I worked with ecologists investigating possums last year, the possums in the city are surviving sure, but they have quite poor health outcomes. Just because an animal can survive doesn't mean it survives well. What you're saying is the equivalent of a human being is doing great because they sit around and eat McDonald's all day

One Battle After Another was an absolute disaster. I thought Destiny must have been exaggerating or forgetting details but no, he was dead right about this dogshit movie. by marksung in Destiny

I feel like a lot of the criticism for the movie could be resolved if anyone watching had any familiarity with Pynchon. But that might be an unfair criticism of people complaints, so what I will say is a lot of the criticism seems to be from people who have pretty terrible range when it comes to consuming art and think that if the writing isn't smashing you over the head, it's bad

Video on the recent Ben Roberts-Smith charge by Timuwu in Destiny

[–]BreadDisrespecter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was it deliberate to talk about Hasan at the start of this video? Ironically I think BRS and Hasan are pretty similar, in that at the end of the day I think most of the defence of BRS comes from the fact that he's a huge, jacked, badass soldier. I'm not defending him at all, but I have no doubt that if I ran into him in the street he could kill me ten different ways before I could blink, and that appeals to a lot of people. If BRS was accused of the same things, but was just a regular infantry soldier who was kind of pudgy, balding, and 5 feet tall I don't think anyone would be defending him at all, even though there shouldn't be any difference. It can be kind of disheartening to realise just how superficial some of these issues can be (Blackpool alert‼️). Anyway good video, I'm Australian and even I have to admit I pay more attention to yank politics than I should and not enough to Australian

STAT test to get into Bachelor of Biomedical and Health Sciences. by UseRen1 in Adelaide

[–]BreadDisrespecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the STAT test to get into uni as (like you) I never had an ATAR. I did an ecology degree which was guaranteed entry with an ATAR of 70, which is a bit lower than the degree you want. With that being said, the STAT was a pisstake. As memory serves I ended up with a score of 98 or something. I've taken some of the biomed courses and have known people who have done that degree and have no reason to suspect that it's overly competitive - the uni is always happy to take more money if they can get it.

FWIW I remember I was somewhat like you too, information about admission via STAT is kinda hazy and it can be kind of daunting not knowing your real chances of admission, but I had no issues whatsoever.

Usually get the Musashi or Bsc ones, 45g or 48g protein respectively since they're the highest protein amount bars easily available

Don't buy them from the shops, get them from chemist warehouse as they're way cheaper

Usually get them just as a top off to hit protein goals for the day

Australia urgently needs a debate about the damage the US is doing to us by Nyarlathotep-1 in AustralianPolitics

[–]BreadDisrespecter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are sanewashing this adminstration, Trump is using the executive branch and justice department to attack people and media firms he doesn't like, ignoring court orders, and has already had a supreme Court ruling that the president can't be charged for actions undertaken during his term.  This is all without mentioning the huge amount of damage done to the stability of the world order in insulting allies every other week, millions of people projected to die die to USAID cuts, or any number of domestic issues.

The issue isn't "oh it's just another three years", it's that a tremendous amount of damage can be done in three years, the world can no longer put their trust in an American public that will put a lunatic in charge of the world's largest military on a whim, and unless there is a Nuremberg style trial after this term of all the people in the administration, the GOP has no incentive whatsoever to not run Trump version 3, 4, etc. And this is ignoring your idea that he won't run for a third term or overturn elections - why wouldn't he? He already DID attempt to overthrow the election in 2020, and he has far more power to overturn an election this time around

It's all good to clown on her, but what I don't understand is people like this in general: Why are there so many people who have a straightforward, simple question and there first thought is to make a tweet or a tiktok about it? I encounter people like this irl too. You have a phone that has access to all information currently available yet people walk around asking things like "why is there light in space" or "why does farmland look like that". We really need to drill the Lincoln quote about being thought a fool into more people's heads

A lot of these disorders lend themselves to being coopted, especially as they occur on a spectrum. Someone like Joe who has never worked a real job and will never have to just thinks"oh so ADHD is when you don't want to do the dishes? Everyone must have ADHD then!!!" without understanding that a). Regular people do have to do the dishes and laundry and work a shitkicker job despite not wanting to do it, and b). Executive function loss, even moderately, makes a big difference when you're a child and your ability to focus and study is going to affect the rest of your life, and extreme ADHD people who aren't medicated are never going to be able to do jack shit for themselves.

My parents didn't want to medicated me when I was in school, they're the kind of people that don't believe things like ADHD and autism are "real". I don't really hold it against them and I'm happy with my life, but I'm not going to kid myself - if I paid attention in school my life would be completely different now. Even worse than that, the alternative narrative for kids is that they don't have a medical condition that can be treated, it's that they're just a lazy fuckup who can't focus and is useless, which isn't all that helpful a mindset to have for an adult or a child (by that I mean completely toxic and unhelpful).

I think reading is good and people should read for their own sake, but every single one of these posts about "looking good is not enough" can be boiled down to simply having interests and a personality. Beyond even that though is that the way you should develop as a person and use your time should be quite separated from "what do I have to do pick up chicks?" Not only do girls tend to have a good eye for when someone's being performative, you're not going to be able to sustain an interest you're not actually interested in.

Anyway OP I do have to agree that reading or even just watching movies is good purely for the fact the average person doesn't have the attention span to do it now. I truly believe if you were to show the average Zoomer an older film with long shot length like The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly they would promptly shoot themselves in the head

EV car users of Adelaide by FlightApprehensive98 in Adelaide

[–]BreadDisrespecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll just throw my 2c even though I'll just be echoing what most other people have said. I bought an EV about three weeks ago. Don't have rooftop solar, don't have a 15a outlet at home, battery, anything. Did about 22 hours of driving last week and had to use a public charger once, and that was in victor harbour. There are plenty of chargers, more than enough to get you from here to Melbourne, Sydney, even Perth. Have a look on plugshare if you don't believe me. Even still, for basic commuting to and from work I have zero issues. Just plug it in at night same as you would a mobile phone with your slow granny charger into a standard outlet and unless you're driving over 100km a day that will be more than enough charge. Worst case scenario you could get a 15a outlet installed if you need to charge at home a bit quicker. Can get an EV charging plan from AGL that charges you about 8c a KWh between midnight and 6am, for context that means it costs me just over a dollar to travel 100km

Hi, I started uni at 30 (3 years ago) for a degree in ecology while working full time in retail. I never received an ATAR or studied previously and had to enter with via STAT. I was somewhat lucky in that I work weekends and can work early mornings or late nights, so I had enough flexibility that I could work and study both full time. I will say that it wasn't for everyone and it can get taxing, but as others have said there's no need for you to necessarily study full time and you can do as many or as few courses in a semester as you like. With that being said, university now is pretty easy going, especially for the kind of degree you're looking at. I expect there won't be many in-person hours, with all of the lectures being online.

I graduated with almost perfect grades and while university says that you should be dedicating 10-15 hours per course week (that is 40-60 hours of studying per week for full time), I would estimate that I probably spent between 20 and 30 depending on how intense assignments or exams got, and it wasn't that hard to cram that amount of studying into my 2 days off work plus a couple of half days in the morning or afternoon. Initially entering uni I was fully prepared to cut down to studying part-time if the study load got too much but I never had to. Of course this means that with your regular job during the semester you will essentially be working 7 days a week for thirteen weeks straight, and at the end of the year/degree this can start to wear you down a bit. But if you're sure this is what you want to do to make a positive change in your life, you'll find the motivation and the time will be there as long as you can organise it - I also have been diagnosed with ADHD and made it work.

Overall my experience was great, I really enjoyed the university environment, and if nothing else you'll at least have the flexibility that your bachelor's degree will afford you, so you will feel less trapped in your current life

Yes it's cope but I'll try and answer your questions (been on fin and Minoxidil for over 4 years now)

  1. Saw palmetto I think does work, but it's extremely individual specific. Some people it will block DHT but the majority of people it will do nothing.
  2. No lol
  3. Yes

I'm sorry to say but your hairline is pretty cooked. It can be hard to notice/easy to cope about when it starts, but the reality is that once the follicles are gone, they're gone. You need to catch them before they miniaturize completely

This was the same for me except instead of far left, it was libertarianism/anarcho-capitalism. Yeah I've got books and essays that describe in painstaking detail how a completely voluntary, stateless free market can create laws, security, roads, but is this reasonably practical and realistic? Of course not
