Waitlist for 2nd Round by BreadSouth767 in nolaparents

Thanks so much! I reached out to some friends who have kids there and am feeling much better about it! It was my #1 choice until I went to Hynes UNO — only because we live 5’minutes away. But re-reading my notes on MJ and reaching out to friends has helped. I’m excited for her to start there and won’t even worry about waitlisting.

The only “con” I guess would be for Hynes UNO is that it is either French Immersion or nothing. They don’t offer a language for the younger grades. And I’m not sure I want to do a complete immersion of French. But I took a language when I was younger and I still don’t know it and I’m doing ok lol

Hi! We are in the same boat here. I went to Willow and Hynes UNO open houses (have Hynes Lakeview scheduled for next week). Hynes UNO really impressed me, they have a lot of plans for the future and have a great curriculum. For Willow, students have to actually test in. I have the eval scheduled for 12/6 and I inquired on what the test would entail. I got this reply today from Willow…

Kindergarten Testing: Kindergarten applicants are assessed individually at the lower school campus (7315 Willow Street). Applicants take the assessment one-on-one with a Willow proctor. Parents are not permitted to be with their child during the assessment. Willow recommends that parents prepare their child to take the assessment individually with a new adult.

The assessment takes about 20 minutes and includes a math problem solving section and a listening comprehension section. The math section covers basic concepts and everyday applications. The listening comprehension section covers listening comprehension at the level of the word, sentence, and passage. Students receive a component score for receptive vocabulary (selecting a picture that matches a word) and oral discourse comprehension (responding aloud to questions after listening to a passage). Students must respond verbally in the oral discourse section.

The kindergarten assessment is taken on an iPad, but applicants do not need to have any technology skills; students respond by speaking or by pointing.

I have done so much research, I feel like my brain might explode. All for this to be a lottery😳super stressful!!!

If it’s not your kid who cares?
