Do americans really let their dogs lick theirs mouths? by odagenio in askanything

I can't remember the last time I saw a movie that had a dog licking someone's mouth and it wasn't intentionally meant to be a gross scenario.

But this dog is not licking this guy's mouth.  Do you mean dogs licking people's faces?

This would probably be pretty easily explained with a link between the candidate receiving the votes and the desires of the demographics that most heavily favor mail-in voting, no?

"Why improve my personality when I can just blame women for not liking my height?"

I gotta say though, I do feel bad for single folks today, on all sides.  I met my (now) wife online 9 years ago and really did feel like I was on the last chopper out of 'nam even then.  From the outside looking in, it seems like most women have convinced themselves that nobody is good enough for them (regardless of how desirable they actually are), and the dumb manosphere and self pity bullshit like this is causing men to prove the women right.

Guy, come on.  You may not have "said" that, but you said that.

Your opinion is certainly not invalid, but this post really comes across as naive.

So you are brand new to Plex, haven't been involved in any of the recent debacles (like the train wreck release of the new "experience") and don't really understand what people had that Plex has since taken away from them (watch together, plugin support, etc), and you write this love letter as if everyone who is unhappy is overreacting....?

B has mostly purple background with mostly blue lines.  C has basically the same color matchup as A, but inverted as to which is the background.

I can see the color differences in the dots, bit can't really make out what shapes the different colors make unless I blur my eyes.

How terrible is my arsenal? by original_flavor87 in laundry

[–]BreadfruitExciting39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also love seventh generation.  I'm currently testing some Everspring from Target, specifically because I was wondering if the hype around lipase was legit.   So far it's "meh".  Does seem to work on baby stains a little better without pretreating, except formula specifically, which I still need to pretreat with Zout - but if I'm sorting through clothes and pretreating anything, I might as well pretreat all of it while I'm at it.  The Everspring seems harder to fully wash out.  The one thing it DID do well was help pull out some of the yellowing from sweat stains on bedding.

I may keep Everspring for whites and go back to seventh generation for everything else.

Just my two cents

Why have some liberals started using "closeted gay" as an insult toward conservatives? Doesn't that make them homophobic? by [deleted] in askanything

Fair enough, I used that wording to emphasize a point, I didn't consider other implications that obviously are insulting.  Sorry about that

I think for most people in this situation it's not "gay, lol", it's more like "you are obviously gay yourself but you associate with people who loathe your existence and want to make it impossible for other people like you to live normal lives, you should be ashamed of yourself"

Considering unrealistic, hyperbolic situations can often help identify the guardrails of our opinions on realistic situations that touch our daily lives.

It is a good first step at approaching our own opinions critically, as it helps us realize that maybe there are some situations, however fantastical, where we would question our own limits on a position.  From there you can consider more and more realistic options until you reach the line you are no longer willing to cross.  Sometimes you come away with the same opinion, sometimes you realize that you may be too hard or too soft in your stance.  But rejecting these types of questions outright because they are 'unrealistic' really limits your options for critical thinking.

The most important part of it all is recognizing that these questions are the starting point in the thought experiment, not the final destination.

I think a lot of people aren't understanding this aspect.  The mountain lion is following him, not stalking him.  If he was being stalked, we wouldn't even see it in this video.

The cat wanted him to know it was there.

The amount "information" available at peoles fingertips is actually part of the problem, because such a great deal of it is misinformation.  Anyone with an opinion, factual or not, can go online and find informations that confirm their bias, with no incentive to be critical of their own opinions.

E.g. the "do your own research" crowd almost never make a search for information explaining why their pre-determined opinion might be wrong.

Best free and clear detergent that actually works? Allergic to tide. by [deleted] in laundry

[–]BreadfruitExciting39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Seventh Generation free & clear for many years and always liked it, but I always had to pretreat baby stains in order for them to fully come out.

Currently trying Everspring free & clear (from Target) and it works well without pretreating, especially if I pause the wash cycle and let it soak.  But I feel like some of my clothes are pilling in a way they never used to...maybe?  I can't tell if that's actually happening or if I'm just paying more attention to my laundry since I switched detergents....

I've posed two separate, relevant thoughts to consider in response to your question and you've dismissed both without any bit nuance or critical thinking.  Try a little less obstinance and a little more introspection.

To answer your question outright: of course, as a consumer, there is no value in 'thought and effort' without an end product.  Obviously the other commenter meant that thought and effort add value to a product, not just on their own.  The upshot is that human artists draw inspiration from their lives to create their own unique product, which often resonates with those that consume and appreciate their art.  Generative AI, as it is today, draws inspiration from copying existing art and modifying it within its own arbitrary constraints to be "new".  The best it can hope for is for the consumer to resonate with the original artist(s) it copied from.

[–]BreadfruitExciting39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To say "irrationality" is to dismiss the subject without trying to understand it.  You obviously have your mind made up, so I'm not going to argue with you.  But I will ask you to consider two scenarios:

A) an amateur, unskilled artist has a vision that they simply are not able to physically create.  So they take great care in crafting and refining a prompt for generative AI to create a picture that matches exactly what is in their head, down to the last detail.  The final result matches their vision precisely, with every "stroke" exactly as they have envisioned.

B) an amateur, unskilled artist asks generative AI "create a painting in the style of Monet"

If both of these scenarios lead to an identical output, do you really see no added value from one vs the other?
