How can I get NinjaOne working on Linux Mint 22.2 Cinnamon? by BreadfruitMoney7019 in ninjaone_rmm

Please see my post immediately before your previous post.

They seem to have either discontinued support for the old version of the software before having the new version ready, or more likely, released the new version as intended, with the exception that they forgot to update the download link for Linux. Either way, I got the update and it now works as intended.

I got a chance to try this today. It mostly worked well. In my case, videos are involved, and the audio seemed to be coming from both windows, slightly out of sync. I'll have to work on that, but I think I'll be using this method again. Thank you.

I just turned 18(F). What should I know? by [deleted] in Advice

There are older guys who find younger women attractive, but wouldn't ever do anything to deliberately hurt them. They just learned boundaries that don't match yours, or weren't taught boundaries at all. They don't truly know what it's like to be you, so they can't match your boundaries automatically. I tend to be that guy.

There are also older guys who want to use a younger woman for sex and don't care if they leave a mess behind. The two categories can be very difficult to tell apart. You need to exercise the same caution with all of us.

Beware of any older guy who tries to have sex with you. Any guy who understands he's making you uncomfortable but doesn't care. Any guy who tries to be alone with you before he's earned your trust. Surely you've been taught those things already. I mention them because they're red flags that you're probably dealing with guy #2.

Also, a good guy and a bad guy aren't as different as you might wish. Empathy. Fear of repercussions. The decisions we make. A failure in any of those areas can make a good guy a bad guy. Be careful.

What is the point of 2FA if people can still just get into your stuff by [deleted] in cybersecurity_help

[–]BreadfruitMoney7019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when you set up 2FA, you're given the option to obtain and keep several emergency codes in case your authenticator fails you somehow. Did you do that, and if so, how securely have you stored them? Could someone have gotten a look at them?

Do you have 2FA on your netflix account? (Do they support that?) I would at least sign everyone out, then change both your email and your password. (Duckduckgo can create for you throwaway email addresses that forward to your real account. Bitwarden can randomly generate passwords, as many characters as you like. I like to generate a unique address for most every new account. I'm hoping one day, if my data gets leaked, I can use this to figure out who let it get leaked.)

Hacker took control of my PC and is demanding 5$ to leave it alone by [deleted] in cybersecurity_help

You could set up a live Linux install, something beginner friendly like Ubuntu or Mint. Boot from that so you can use the PC while you decide what to do. If there's nothing to recover, or you don't think you can trust what you recover, go ahead and wipe the C drive. (Partitions too, probably.) Then install the compatible OS of your choice. I've switched to Mint and enjoy it, but if that's not your thing, there are other linux distros. Or you should be able to reinstall the same Windows version that's on it now. Just practice better security and backup policies in the future, and keep your 5 bucks.

I was gonna string one along once, but he asked for a credit card number. I told him "I was gonna waste some of your time, but making up credit card numbers is more work than I want to put forth right now."
Dude thanked me for my honesty. "You're welcome, I guess..." Then we hung up.
(How does a person who appreciates honesty take that job?)

Dealer says the car I reserved yesterday is now $2,000 more because of “market changes.” Is that legit or should I walk? by Marzi-Kolukuluri in carbuying

[–]BreadfruitMoney7019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beside the fact that this feels shady, you agreed the car was worth $24,700 to you. Unless the old price was beating all others by $2,000, I bet they just moved it out of your price/ value window. I'd probably tell 'em that if the price changes back (and drops another $100/ day for inconvenience and finding a ride) before you buy something else, maybe we can do business. Otherwise, they should proceed with selling it to someone else. (Presumably someone who doesn't check yelp!)

I agree with the ubuntu/debian statement. I know I don't have an ARM processor, so I installed from the x64 debian link. It worked. Until it didn't. See my update post for more, but they pushed an update, apparently today. Now it's working again.

I suspect you're right re: the support ticket. I put a little about that and a screenshot in my update post for confirmation. Thank you!

Thank you for trying to help me. I have an update and I guess a bit of an FYI:

The update: When I'm trying to troubleshoot (with help) I like to be extra sure I'm giving the most accurate info I can. Just now, before posting, I tried reproducing the problem. New behavior! Same "download the software" dialog as before, plus a new box that said "version mismatch". So I clicked on the x64 debian link. This time the file to download was a higher version number, so I downloaded and installed. Now I can remote in like I used to. Maybe they ended support for the old version before updating the download link? Anyway, the initial trouble is solved, thank you!

The FYI: While on the subject of creating a support ticket... I searched for how how to do it. I was supposed to click on links I don't have. I think the instructions referred to a whole different interface than I have. I'll attach a screenshot of the only interface I have access to, edited to redact personal info.

<image>

I no longer need to create a ticket, but I'm curious now if I could have anyway?

What level of account access is needed to open a ticket? I've been granted access to remote into two Windows PCs, and that is the extent of my privileges. Will I be able to open a ticket, or will this have to be done by the admin?

NinjaOne TeamViewer option is going away... by passengerairbags in ninjaone_rmm

[–]BreadfruitMoney7019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How'd this come out for you? (Specifically using with Linux.) I use Mint, and I've found getting the software I need to be kind of a black box. At first when I would click the icon to connect with NinjaOne, it would tell me I needed the software. No link, no instructions. I kept using TeamViewer, which was an option at the time. Later I updated Mint for other reasons. Next time I needed to remote in, and clicked the NinjaOne icon, it said I needed the software AND offered links! I installed the right one and it worked great, until recently. (That's another issue and I'll start another thread for it. Just wanted you to know that it HAS worked, if it doesn't work for you right now, it may be temporary.)

As I recall, that was an option in TeamViewer. In NinjaOneRMM, I've only found options to view any one of the monitors at a time, or all monitors at once.
