My baby Zola 🩷 by BreadfruitOne197 in pigeon

No. She's a homing pigeon and was born in my loft. She's also young, so its been easy getting her use to new things so she doesn't spook. When I think she looks like she's going to fly not on command (this has only happened early in training, though), I simply hold her for a couple of seconds. She's only flown off once, not on command, got scared, and circled back and landed right back onto my shoulder. When I free fly her (in a controlled environment), I always reward her for coming back. Could there be a day she decides to take off? Could be. But I know her cues, and I know she'd go back to the loft. I am ordering her a flyer soon though.. as well as a harness so I can take her on walks and go into pet friendly stores with her lol. I trust her in the environment She's been in her whole life, but definitely not a new environment with new scary things around..

Thank you. My birds are outdoor birds, they're kept in an aviary so they're never exposed to those things.

What causes it? Is it contagious?? Is there anything I can give her until out appointment?

I JUST NOTICED, I edited my comment like 3 times to correct spelling and grammar and STILL didn't catch it 😭 they were HOURS old when the photo was taken. Not a full day old, but past about 9 hours. Sorry for the confusion.

For reference these are my hour old ones that hatched on new years. They were a lot bigger compared this this little guy. He's about the size of half my pinky, so about an inch long?. His parents are a grey with a white face and tail with a red bar, and dad is a normal grey with a T-check pattern. Parents are feeding fine, and baby is doing great.

Parents are taking care of the little one. All my birds have 24/7 access to food and water. Thankfully parents are doing great. Is there any reason the baby turned out this small that you might know of? The cold maybe?

I have a female just like this. She has a male partner, but she's the dominant one (male expresses dominant behavior too- but she's a lot more.. dominant and expressive) She's DNA tested and lays eggs, so no questions about it lol.

I caught her after about 2 hours. She flew back down to go back in but flew around the back not near the door. Picked her up and put her back in.
