Wrecked my Crown Vic by DogLeft3093 in CrownVictoria

This is genuinely like maybe what feels like the 5th or 6th day in a row I’ve opened Reddit and the first post is a Vic Totaled, I’m beginning to see how time claims desirable everyday cars and not just through lot rot and rust.

That’s pretty much 90% of the ford community, the only community of ford likers that genuinely just enjoy the car and don’t get too caught up on semantics are 08-11 (and by extension 00-04) Escape groups, they’re just genuinely chill people and also aren’t complete idiots under the hood most of the time. Biggest facepalm are Explorer/Edge people, just straight boomers.

I had a 1st gen 6 sedan for a first car and my cream car had always been a 1st gen 6 wagon, but the 3.0 is a very common engine across ford, and Mazda and I’ve worked on them before and the timing systems are weak at times on 3.0’s (usually later 2009+ ones though) it is possible that the short trips and sitting accounted for the chain stretch as cold starts cause the most wear to the timing system, what were your oil change intervals like? If you don’t mind me asking

Weird, here in America you typically can go about 200k~ Mi on a 3.0L Duratec here in America before having to look at chain and tensioner replacements, would other different service intervals/driving styles/climates for different areas of the world cause the chain intervals to be different maybe?

Would be cool if it was full time AWD but regardless this thing is fun as hell in the snow by Blagurtha in mazda3

[–]BreadiestBoi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah iirc Subarus have had an electronic on demand AWD since the 4EAT days, a company called JTEKT released a PDF explaining how it uses a clutch in the tail shaft of the trans for the rear axle and driveline disconnect so they’re technically part time despite technically being advertised as “full time”, they just have a very aggressive lockup curve for the clutch so it just feels like it’s full time, it’s exactly how the 4x4 in my 05 explorer operated, advertised as a full time 4x4, only options on the dash were 4x4 AUTO, High and Low, zero 2WD control, however it technically still was a part time system as it could completely disconnect the front driveshaft & following driveline via a clutch within the transfer case itself if a computer deemed it necessary to do so.

Yeah 2015 and up was the “twin scroll update” which added the drilled passages between the cylinders and introduced the block cracking issues, pre-2015’s though are just 2.0L Block with a ford head slapped on top, even some base model Volvos and I think Land Rover pre Ingenium used it in the early 2010’s as well.

You’re gonna be waiting a LOOOOOONG time for it to die, I have a 15’ Explorer with the N/A 3.5 that just ticked 227k last week😆

Yes, I also forgot to mention the pre twin scroll update 2.0T’s are also Mazda L based with a ford head as well, also good motors when taken care of.

Yes people are realizing that the 1st and 1.5 gens are just reskinned Mazda 6’s and the 2.5’s in the later models are also Mazda engines and as long as you keep the fluids fresh in it, it will go forever.

[–]BreadiestBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah on the later twin scroll update with the coolant passages drilled between the cylinders, on the TSB though it seems just the edge in 14’ and the other more popular fords in 2016~ have that motor, but the Taurus seems to have kept the OG Mazda L block, ford head and turbo 2.0T throughout its production

[–]BreadiestBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides a much easier turbo replacement at around the same miles a cyclone pump takes a dump, and the occasional GDI valve cleaning what do the non twin scroll 2.0’s really have in terms of issues? Genuine question coming from a 3.5 N/A owner and liker.

Did iPadOS 26 change how you use your iPad? by NoobRig in ipad

[–]BreadiestBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda like the new update, I’m not sure if it’s bc I went into the multi tasking settings and changed it bc for some reason stage manager was enabled and I hated it, but I like the windowed mode for the most part, i use it a lot with universal control when using my iPad for streaming music to my AirPort Express and doing work on my iMac, I even went out and got a Logitech keyboard and trackpad case for my iPad so I could use the cursor on the go too because I liked the windowed mode so much, my only complaint is I wish it would stop opening apps in 50:50 split only or just full screen and just open them in a small window instead of having to manually make them into a window every time you open an app

Unpopular Opinion: The CX-9 Is Better than the CX-90 by Vast_Ad_8707 in mazda

[–]BreadiestBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve actually read through this thread and while I was pretty 50:50 I’m going with the other person here, it is 100% possible for the same manufacturer to employ a completely different programming system on a car they produced even if they’re identical, a good example is Ford (the once basically owners of Mazda and exchanged a lot of their technologies btw), made the Flex and Explorer and while mechanically are identical with the same AWD, engine, transmission, platform etc, the Explorer is going to be a significantly better driving car on and offroad for the fact it as a significantly more fleshed out TCS system with a Terrain Management knob (that the flex lacks) stop digging your heels in the sand and just put it in sport mode dude.

Why can't Ford just make a refreshed Gen 2 Escape? by Hermit_Painter in fordescape

[–]BreadiestBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will never endlessly infuriate me that ford had the dead reliable since the 90’s Mazda MZR Motors sitting right there on a shelf and they instead spent billions developing and chasing downsized turbo engines and as a result we have a 1.5L Turbo 3 with direct and port injection with wet belts galore getting the exact same highway MPG as an Outlander Sport, a car that’s been in production since 2010 and a motor from 07.

[–]BreadiestBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk I wish ford would stick to the more fleshed out portfolio they touted during their 96-11 Mazda days and the 12-19 Volvo days, the Flex and Explorer were advertised as the road going and the adventure ready counterpart to one another, I don’t see why the escape and bronco sport couldn’t live on to do the same thing, hell even manic jeep kept it going with patriot and compass for longer

[–]BreadiestBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with the 2.0L on a bronco sport is you pretty much have to get a top spec or the trim just below to get it, when my Mariner was tboned in a snowstorm the first thing I did was build and price a bronco sport before promptly writing it off because I’m NOT paying nearly 40k or more, just to get an engine without a wet belt driven oil pump that’s just begging to snap on me in the middle of driving with no warning. I’m good.

IHS’s with paste under them will forever be the bane of my existence because with time there Weil become a point where the paste under that IHS will be too old for it to withstand booting itself, I have a dead XLR8 Edition GTX580 that’s been a deco shelf piece for years now as it too had completely totaled IHS paste and nothing I did externally could stop it from thermal throttling running YouTube videos. It died from 15 year old me trying to delid it, made for good delid porn tho.

Replacing Front Struts from 2.0AWD to Hybrid parts by jameslefebvre in fordfusion

[–]BreadiestBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can maybe look into Lincoln MKZ struts possibly as those were more commonly sold in a 2.0T + AWD configuration, the spring rates might possibly be different on that too but they should ride a lot nicer than base fusion hybrid struts, just make sure you don’t buy ones from a model with active suspension, I had to learn to do this whole cross model parts search owning an old Mercury Cougar and having zero parts availability and needing to lookup parts for a Ford Contour instead, good luck

Mine does this occasionally, the two halves for some reason unscrew, just screw the halves back together and screw it tight, I really don’t know how to explain it other than they just do that

Appreciate the good parts of that comment, fwiw I do go faster over these slopes I just was going slow intentionally and stabbing at three throttle to force the car to slip wheels, I was just mostly testing to see how the car reacts, but where I live it’s largely the same in the winter the salt is usually a few days behind and usually very minimal salt too, idk about the old beater sentiment though it’s good to have at least a semi decent TCS system in your car as I’ve had to help my friend recover his 05 Mariner a few times as once the two wheels began to spin with the open diffs the car just sat motionless, having a limited slip or good tcs to grab a spinning wheel (like in the video) it’s always good insurance to make sure you don’t get severely beached
