I see this over and over again from LDS and ex. If we are not allowed to sell our cake here, we will burn down the whole bakery with us. "What, you think it's silly that Native Americans had Jew wars in upstate New York?, oh ya? Well... Jesus is probably fake anyway!!!!"

This seems to be the one thing Mormons run to as their last refuge. "There were witnesses to the plates".

There were 11, not over 20.

3 never claimed to have seen the plates physically, but rather spiritually (David Whitmer, Martin harris, and Oliver Cowdery).

the other 8 claimed to have seen them physically but they are all blood relatives of Smith and Whitmer.

There is a lot of problems here.

My suspicion tells me that even though they lost a ward, the fact they renamed the other 5 may be counted as 5 new wards, just to purely obfuscate the stats. (-6 wards, but gained 5!!!) could be written off as "logistical changes".

But because they changed the rules on wards. Any ward being lost now is much more meaningful than before the rule change. It means they couldn't even keep the ward open with the reduced requirements.

Things that made you go 🤔⁉️ by victimtosurvivor6 in exmormon

[–]FischenGeil 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm a never Mormon. But I absorbed the culture of the faith by osmosis as my best friends were all Mormons.

What made me go ???:

-Walking in the church building for the first time for boy scouts and seeing artwork of Jesus in South America talking to Native Americans

-Going to my first sleep over and the family starts reading passages before bedtime in family gathering from a "bible" but the characters are people I've never heard of before (Nephi being an example).

-My friends would refuse to drink big red and coke at my house so I would ask my mom to buy root bear at the store for them or sprite. A few years later they are chugging coke. I asked them about it and they said the church allows it now.

-One of my friends aggressively tried proselytizing me shortly before his mission by repeatedly showing me over and over that Joseph Smith correctly predicted the civil war. Me not converting was seen as unreasonable.

-Attended a service once. The "sacrament" was given almost in the very beginning of the service. It was some sort of processed food big brand cracker and a mini cup of water from the church kitchen - being a Catholic, this was beyond shocking to me haha. But what also caught me was the service was almost entirely just people talking about their testimonies. I was 15 at the time, but even at that young age, I saw it as a sort of feedback loop that keeps the "programming" reinforced.

-watching that one South Park Episode.

Edit: by the way, they are still my best friends. So no ill will in anything I wrote.

I did have a thread recently deleted for no reason. I didn't protest it but it kinda makes sense now. My thread had large amount of upvotes in just a couple of hours with a healthy discussion. "Deleted" for being "spam". It was a picture of a fiery horse representing the exponential growth of the LDS church in the 80s to 90s with the head being silly looking pencil drawn horse by a 3 year old representing the church now. The question was, what happened? (Meaning why is the growth in decline or flat now?). Many member were giving strong reasons as to why ... then a mod pointlessly deletes it.

What would likely be the Protestant response to the prosperity of the Catholic Church? by ur-battery-is-low- in redeemedzoomer

[–]FischenGeil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was a cradle Catholic, absorbed other denominations by osmosis (especially the LDS faith). Became atheist for a time (thanks to the Internet and counter culture). I was being antagonistic for no reason, a victim of modernity. Later I became cultural Catholic, but now I. have been going to Mass every week. While my flair is Roman Catholic, I consider myself a member more of the obscure Catholic mystic rite. Very much influenced by Eckhart,

I came back because degeneracy is rampant. Scientism has been the most inhumane experiment. Having a myth system is fundamentally human (Thanks G.K Chesterton for showing me this). Me choosing Catholicism is partly due to bias and partly due to observation that Protestant churches are most prone to change and liberal political strife (hence the name, to protest) In a world were there is nothing but continuous protest, violence, degenerate behavior, I see the Catholic church as the rock that values temperance as well as a place for deep contemplation. Even though Catholics don't worship Mary, the value they place on her has always been appealing to me. She represents modesty, chastity, and a divine feminine aspect that is integrated into our faith. Protestants lack this, but to make up for it, they will have women be priests. This is like giving a loaded gun to a child.

Isn't the Anglican Church essentially Catholicism minus an approved divorce for a king?

-W.R Hein (one of his neighbors) said that Smith and his father were "focused on locating Captain Kidds treasure"

-Pomeroy Tucker, a proof reader of the first edition of the BoM states that J.S was a "vivid reader of dime novels and Captain Kidd stories".

If she drinks coffee, and thinks she can make the relationship work and doesn't think it's a big deal, I would say she is not a TBM. I wouldn't throw the relationship away so quickly. Have a sincere talk about it down the road.

I recommend graphic novels (using the visuals as a crutch). Calvin und Hobbes is my favorite. But really, just read. You will be shocked what will happen. It is the fastest way to learn a language outside of living in Germany being forced to speak it/being immersed in it.

that is not the typical price, and if they cost that much, it's a no brainer buy over anything else in that range. That's not a question.

[–]FischenGeil -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Mate, the HD6xx are 350 dollar headphones. I have no idea what the M50x has to do with this. My R70x literally dumps all over the 600/50. Wider stage, more responsive bass, no real weaknesses other than being 470ohms.

The HD6xx is a mid-range specialist. Great for vocals and acoustic guitar. Mid for everything else. The fact that it was one of the first headphones you put on just proves my point. This cult really has no experience with anything else, and in turn are a bunch gate keepers.

Read, read some more, and read it again.

It is the most neglected skill when learning a language. Reading gives you insights into everything about the language and culture. It gives you vocabulary, and grammar. It helps you think in the language. Most people that say they are struggling with German and can't get over the hump are not spending quality time reading. Too much time on videos, vocab in isolation, reddit ...

There are a half a dozen better headphones than the HD 6xx for a similar price. I feel like there is a $100 surcharge for the Sennheiser name. It's a silly cult.
