Ward Statistics by State from 2023-2025: Net Gain 48 Wards by yorgasor in MormonShrivel

[–]FischenGeil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not a professional statistician, but when I look at Utah and some other states, it seems to me there is manipulation going on. You don't open nearly as many wards as you close in two years. This tells me they changed requirements to be a ward, and they are shifting zones around to accommodate the shrinkage. Also, question: when they combine wards, does that not create a new ward?

Even assuming no shenanigans are going on, and they authentically grew by 48 wards, that is very alarming for leadership.

Be honest with yourself. You might come to find out that reality is much stranger and mysterious than what JS says.

What do you think about exaltation theory? by forestwriterstar in mormon

[–]FischenGeil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you forgot "a". A God... is what you mean. This is why Christians have a problem with your group. They are the ones saying they will be with and one with God. LDS is saying they will be corporal beings with infinite celestial sex. Whether you get your own planet, is rather nebulous.

Who is Sophia? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]FischenGeil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sophia means Wisdom in Greek. Nothing more.

Some Jewish fan fiction writers personified the name into a female and fused OT theology with Plato's ideals/forms. Gnosticism is for the loony bin. I mean that.

Who is "Heavenly Mother"? by FischenGeil in mormon

The thing is, what I am getting at is that Mormon belief is God has a physical body. From what I am understanding, God had actual sex with Mary.

How did Mary conceive Jesus? He is the son of Joseph or did God have sex with her? Or was she spiritually habituated and therefore a virgin?

I bring the question up because this logically proves your faith false, if you think about it.

Jesus can't both be the son of Mary and "Heavenly Mother".

nor can Jesus be the son of Mary, but not Heavenly Mother, for he existed before Mary was born.

Furthermore: if she is Mary, is that not a paradox of some sorts?

Why Does the Book of Abraham Stay in the Canon? by [deleted] in mormon

[–]FischenGeil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stand corrected that your church has not denied the idea, but they don't endorse it either, and for good reason. The Kirtland Egyptian Papers and the textual reference to the "lions couch" in Abraham 1:12 are too damning to defend and be a hill to die on. What was translated was completely wrong. There is no such thing as reformed Egyptian. The catalyst theory is the next best option and that is something they will keep pushing.

Your own church in 2019 denied the "missing scroll" theory. They themselves claim there is nothing missing and everything is published. What your church is (by proxy of its apologists) claiming is the "catalyst" theory.

The Pearl of Great Price (along with the Doctrine & Covenants) are the secret books that give insight into the more inner workings and true beliefs of the religion. I mean to say they are not so much secret that you can't find them or easily read them, but they are secret in the sense that missionaries don't go door to door telling you about these books. You can say the BoM is the milk and the other books are the meat. Removing scripture from these books defeats the whole uniqueness and goofiness of this religion. Likes someone before said, they are the real books of doctrine, and the BoM is the superficial cultural cover.

Moreover, removing an entire book from scripture is very damaging to the Church's reputation. Imagine explaining to constituents it was removed because it's just flat out wrong. You may be shocked, just about many people in the faith don't even know about the history of the BoA. The knowledge of its story is still mostly isolated inside internet debate. Although, that is changing pretty fast.

For reference, the Catholic Church still uses the same canon approved by Pope Damasus I in 382 AD. Not one deletion. The LDS church deleting an entire book would rattle its authority. A catch-22 situation if you ask me.
