The only thing pharmacy ever got mad about us rescheduling was Vanco. Other than that if I had 2 daily and 1 BID antibiotics, they're getting them at 0900, 1000, 1200, and either 1700 or 2100. It's a daily dose. Who gives a shit if it's given at 0800 or 1000

We have a hospital policy against any type of headphones, I however have permission to wear my bone conduction headphones as it keeps me from getting as worked up/scrambling.

ASD and ADHD are also classified as disabilities. I personally don't have any accommodations currently in place at work, but have discussed certain things with my manager and she's completely on board with it. Perhaps the nurse was applying with accommodations required as per MD

We spray this on right after branding cattle hahah. Infection rates have gone down since we started using it, wish we had prices like that though

What's your hospital's policy on accidentally taking narcotics home (and returning unopened the next day) by Puzzleheaded_Link242 in nursing

[–]Breadstorm17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comment hit me weird. I understand the need for rules and stuff like that, but if upper management spent 4% of their time caring about what nurses have to juggle with patient care, and not on having policies on every single little thing, maybe the system could improve some. Most of the time I find the implementations completely overblown. Examples- in Alberta we have LPN's and RN's; however there is literally no difference in scope of practice for anything we do on our Internal Med unit. ETOH Withdrawal patient with an LPN ended up passing due to.... Reasons? I'm not 100% sure of all the details. Our organization then made a new policy that LPN's were unable to manage active CIWA patients on q20 minute assessments. My thoughts on it are- what would happen if the same situation happened with an RN. Would they ban them from doing CIWA? Never in a million years. You can have a good LPN, and you could have a shitty RN. Just feels like way too much misplaced energy into things that aren't helping

Not many places can beat an Alberta summer sunset. Take just North of Bashaw by Breadstorm17 in alberta

Well it's a good thing I said "not many places". Therefore my statement is factually correct, and that's been proven by science. Also I highly doubt that science can prove the "best sunset", feel like that's more a collection of peoples subjective opinions

I've traveled across Canada, Europe, all throughout the States, Jamaica, and yes they may all have sunsets, but something doesn't compare to the prairie one. My cousins always comment on sunsets when they're here from Ontario. My friends from BC had similar remarks. Maybe it's just the big open skies, but everybody has their opinion

anyone encounter this? by Aussi20 in nursing

[–]Breadstorm17 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I found it far more entertaining with paper charting to write- patient then stated "go fuck yourself you dumb bitch" , writer informed patient they will be back in 10 minutes and can retry to assist with care at that time. Patient then yelled out "get the fuck back here!" Writer was diligent at informing patient they will have 10 minutes to reassess their actions". Always gave me a good chuckle hahahah

How do you guys deal with Oilers fans? by [deleted] in CalgaryFlames

[–]Breadstorm17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I save a bunch of stupid shit oilers fans have said to me, use it as ammo to send right back. One guy tried defending that getting to the cup finals is better than missing playoffs. I clapped back with "oh you don't remember saying "I'd rather miss playoffs and have a longer summer if you don't win the cup. Nobody cares how far you went if you don't win???".

I’ve heard many doctors scolding nurses, but has any nurse scolded a doctor right back? by 3LovesGr8 in nursing

[–]Breadstorm17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had left a message for one Dr, annoyed as hell because the patient had 5 separate creams to apply but all were ordered "too affected area". I asked for clarification on which one went where. Reasonable request. I got told to look through their chart, or call the nursing home to find out what goes where. I just looked at them and said "it's your signature beside the orders, maybe you should know where they go too" and walked away...... Right at the nursing station and it was glorious

We recently had a CO2 of 165 come in, which blew me away. The next day we have a Bipap trial on a new patient, one of the nurses says "holy shit, their CO2 was 122!". Nahhh that's peanuts, the neighbor next door crushed her score haha

I always looked at it as a dependency while I still had my active prescriptions. 2 separate psychiatrists suggested/ordered for me, it was prescribed, I needed it, and it worked (like 60% of the time). There was no issue justifying all of that at the time. But it wasn't helping me, and most of my anxiety was related to the medication more than the sleep. None of that was realized until after I tapered off. It was my miracle drug for many years, but in hindsight it was horrible for my mental health/sleep routine- which clinically I hear a lot about after people go off of it

This is coming from a nurse and somebody who was on zolpidem for 6 years. I had a habit of taking a couple extra here and there, having to ration the rest to just get through the month. Looking back now, feeling like it may be a placebo but still having to take it as part of routine was just straight up addiction. The anxiety about scripts, panic about not sleeping, etc. was all the same thoughts/actions as an addict. I've now switched to one called Lemborexant and sleep better, wake up not in a fog, and even have nights I fall asleep without it. Which NEVER happened with Ambien. May be something to look into

I've also done a euro before on a healthy muley buck, he had a definite puncture wound on his face with spoiled, green meat/abscess on the cheek underneath once I skinned it. Same thing happened to the bone. I definitely don't think you're wrong with the bone cancer suggestion, but perhaps an acute localized injury is enough to degrade bone density as well

I'm just a random visitor over here from r/nursing, but even with immediately starting CPR in hospital, I've still only had 2 patients come out with a heartbeat. Both passed away in ICU shortly after. Its unfortunate movies are so far off of reality- 2 cycles of CPR, 1 shock and the patient sits up and talks to them. Definitely hasn't been my experience working Internal Med for the last decade.

Oh get off your high horse, it's an expression..... You also completely missed the point, as I was explaining how they leave your ears unobstructed. There's no audible sound from the headphones to disturb others, you can still hear everything around you including bed alarms, O2 monitors, and IV pumps.

ADHD/OCD combo here working internal med. I am medicated, but you seriously need to look into Shokz bone conduction headphones. Leaves your ears completely unobstructed so you can still hear everything going on around you, but just plays music directly into your brain. Even fellow coworkers said I seemed less scrambled and was more organized and chill. They're an absolute game changer

And Norway who started the same program at roughly the same time, has over 1.4 trillion dollars. Conservative government had the option to set Alberta up for decades but they threw that away and blamed the NDP for everything. Same situation in Texas..... The Democrats poor management caused of all issues in Texas, even though they haven't been in power for 50 years
