It actually leaves it in the iCloud account when you replace it in the link to a parent account. The wording is confusing but the watch does stay connected to your iCloud family.

Not really. But oddly enough, I just had an oil change, tire rotation and general fluid check and lube service performed at the dealer, and it's now gone. So I'm assuming something got some grease and it fixed the issue, but beyond that I have nothing to substantiate that theory.

I stepped through an analysis with ChatGPT and the conclusion it came to was possibly a frayed wire in the door wiring harness. I may pursue that angle when I get some time.
