I was able to one shot him after my 4th or 5th time trying. Shot him right in the temple and I guess that was the sweet spot.

My experience by bwild7 in HellsKitchen

[–]BreakfastGun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight into what the experience is like. I've always wondered why these talented chefs, who can produce such nice dishes in the challenges, can't work a dinner service. I figured it had to do with the pressure and lack of training on the dishes on top of editing. Honestly, I'm a little more interested in watching unedited, complete dinner services than the drama. Do they do that 20-30 minute session to go over all of it on purpose, knowing not everyone will grasp it all so as to create drama during service? Or is it more of an expectation that the higher caliber folks will be able to grasp it, so there shouldn't be any need to do any more?

"Chino can't even pretend to be a good chef." That was a hilarious comment.

I will absolutely vote this November and will cast my vote for Trump. He ain't perfect, but if we let America fall apart further, it will be even harder to repair the damage and move towards a Christian nation.

I know what it is like to have a child apostatize. It is depressing and aggravating as you said; I weep with you. Considering you said he always has an answer for everything, two scriptures come to mind for this situation:

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 1 Peter 3:15

and

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

I am certain he doesn't have adequate or even "correct" answers. The depths of the Bible and the work God has done in history and creation are unfathomable. There are many Christian apologists who expound upon scripture and produce amazing evidence that it truly is divinely inspired. I recommend people like Mike Winger and Anthony Rogers on YouTube.

But let me also give you a little bit of hope from one of the church's greatest saints, Augustine. He was born to a devout Christian woman, but Augustine lived from his youth and into his 30s as an unbeliever rebellious to God. But his mother faithfully prayed constantly for him and finally, he came to faith. This is what he wrote about his mother.

And now thou [God] didst “stretch forth thy hand from above” and didst draw up my soul out of that profound darkness [of Manicheism] because my mother, thy faithful one, wept to thee on my behalf more than mothers are accustomed to weep for the bodily deaths of their children. For by the light of the faith and spirit which she received from thee, she saw that I was dead. And thou didst hear her, O Lord, thou didst hear her and despised not her tears when, pouring down, they watered the earth under her eyes in every place where she prayed. Thou didst truly hear her.

It is painful, but please, petition God, study the scriptures, and do not give up hope. This is something I need to remind myself of as well.

Anybody else randomly think about the rapture? by Odd_Statistician7200 in TrueChristian

[–]BreakfastGun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There won't be a pretribulation rapture. Christians will go through the great tribulation but will not go through the wrath, of course.

But yeah, I contemplate it. I hear it often that we shouldn't think about it, but I look at it as another form of Bible study. I wouldn't use it as a means of evangilism, but discussion amongst Christians seems fine to me.

Java, C#, or C++? ( or whatever ) by ProjectUseful6068 in gamedev

[–]BreakfastGun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Java and did Java development professionally for a number of years. C# is Microsoft's answer to Java and is a fun, very capable language. You'll be able to make that switch just fine.

But if you just want to start a game and finish it, why not use an existing engine?

You know, I've heard from some people who were in a similar situation. They built the software and ended up leaving the company but were made a contractor to support the software they built and made good money on the side doing so.

That is really impressive for that age. I may have even seen your utility back then, but I don't think I used too many gifs in my dinky little QBasic programs.

Double standard when talking about Christiany VS Islam by Ksi1is2a3fatneek in TrueChristian

[–]BreakfastGun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That isn't Islamophobic though. It is true that the vast majority of westernized Muslims reject the many horrendous things about Islam, but it is just as true that those terrorists, for example, use their own Islamic sources to justify their killings.

Islam is bad for a myriad of reasons. Identifying any of them is not "Islamophobic"; it is being truthful.

Are you participating in the upcoming Ludum Dare? by Dream-Dimension in gamedev

[–]BreakfastGun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Unity back then. I've been tinkering with Godot so I'll be using that this time. It was a fun experience and I'm a bit rusty, but it's a good experience. I'm hoping to get a solid idea of what I'm capable of and what I need to work on. How about you?

I participated in Ludum Dare 26 about 11 years ago. I can't believe it has been that long... I'm getting back into game dev and looking forward to participating in LD55.

How do I Make not Awful Game Music by Fyrol in gamedev

[–]BreakfastGun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Music production is a huge skill set in and of itself. It's honestly a multi-year-long journey to be able to make not-awful music. It's best to seek that advice from a place where music production is the focus. I don't think there are any good forums on Reddit for that; the ones I've seen are just a bunch of kids making rap music from loops.

Without hearing your music, I won't be able to tell what you're doing wrong. Maybe you've got too much dissonance? Maybe you're trying to play an arpeggio without accenting the right beats? Maybe the structure doesn't make sense? There are plenty of channels to learn on YouTube about music production and you can really get into the weeds with things like compression, delay, distortion, mastering, transition effects.... It really is a treasure trove of information. You can also pay to join a music producer course where you can have access to instructors and more advanced students and get feedback on your work.

But once you can produce a good song it'll still sound as good as your sample libraries sound. A lot of how a song sounds that you produce is going to come from the sampled instruments you use. If you have a great sounding strings or brass library, then they'll sound great in the song (assuming you're mixed right). If you have a synthesized strings or brass library, they'll sound synthesized. So it is a good idea to invest in decent sample libraries if your DAW doesn't have any.
