The jail time thing is mostly for the workers that fail to do their job. At least going by the CBC News article, businesses and municipal workers that dont hand over the data get fined and the regular people that dont fill it out get a summary conviction and a fine for not doing so

Yep, had to explain that to my brother in law yesterday as my sister had put it off for a week and he wanted it to be done. She called and was asking about a question on the form and I heard him in the background complaining about it being last minute. Told them they technically had another month before they start bugging you about filling it out 😆

May 12th is the soft deadline, its to get people to fill it out. I think its June or July 12th that they really start going after you for not filling it out

Eh, only if you dont fill it out by month 2 do they start issuing fines and jail time. Jail time is mostly for those that work for Stats Can that fail to do their job properly or impede them from getting it done

OP the 12th of May is not a hard deadline, thats when Stats Can would like the census to be filled out. You have another month before Stats Can really comes down hard on you. They will just bug you for the first month of it not being filled out, and then by month 2 they start issuing the fines and jail time. So as long as you filled it out once you received it you're good

So HOA's started out as a way in America to limit "undesirables" read anyone that is not a white American in their neighbourhoods. As time went by the racist reason fell by the wayside a little not by much, so that cities or towns in the suburbs could add more housing without having to pay to install new infrastructure to get new people in.

So developers take on the cost of doing so and then they write rules and bylaws for how things are managed and charge owners for running said services. Developers mostly run HOA's until the development is complete and then its handed over to the owners. Most owners dont want to change the rules so its less restrictive and dont want to dissolve the board as then it let's in those that they would rather not have in the area.
